Does anyone else have this type of dog? I have a female mini-pin and she's about 9 months old now. I have the worst time trying to get her to do her business outside. She uses pee pads, but I don't want to have to keep buying them forever.

From what I heard, Miniature Pinschers are known to be difficult to housebreak. But I think you have to be persistent and she will eventually learn what you want from her. How often do you take her outside? What are the moments when you take her outside? What do you do when you see her doing her business inside?

Yep, I heard the same thing too. So far, I have gotten her to pee outside, but she won't go #2 outside. If it is cold, she won't go outside at all. She hates the cold air. I guess we're half way there anyway. :)

I wish you good luck! You have to be very patient with her. Yet you haven't answered any of my questions.

Oh, sorry...didn't mean to diss your questions, LOL! I'm constantly working in front of the PC and she lays on my lap while I work. I take a break every hour and if she wants out then I take her out. She's let out several times a day and after eating of course. To be honest with you, I have only ever seen her pee on the pee pads. I haven't actually caught her doing #2 yet, I just end up finding it. I need eyes in back of my head with this dog.

I have that problem with my mini Dachshunds. Little Bit was a kennel dog and spent his entire life living in a kennel so he knew nothing about not peeing in the house. I was using newspaper and pee pads for them to do their business on. Then Bill and I did some brainstorming and came up with the idea of using beach towels. It has worked out great. They have a pen that they stay in when no one is available to sit with them when they are lose, so the towel is laid there with the edges of the pen holding down one edge and I have some bricks that I use to keep the other sides in place. It works out great because I can wash them and not spend a small fortune on pee pads or try to get rid of smelly used newspapers. I got the towels at my local Goodwill store for $2 - $3 each. The towels work out great!

I also have one, a brown-colored female, given by a friend, almost 10 months old. It was quite a while to train her to pee outside, but fortunately after maybe 10 times, she was able to go outside and do her thing. Do it at the same time everyday, best would be after eating, then taking her outside.
