Lightning

The other night we had a lightning storm. It was spectacular. Most of the lightning was sheet lightning jumping from cloud to cloud so we got the full diffused lighting effect and it lit up the entire area, even inside my home. We felt like we were living in a home with a strobe light. lol Well, I had to get a bath and I normally bathe by candlelight so I was sitting there in the tub with nothing but my two candles lit when suddenly, we had a shot of lightning that was so bright, it reflected off my toilet and I screamed because the image of a bolt of lightning hitting my bathtub came into my mind. Naturally, the likelihood of that actually happening was virtually nil but still, the brightness of the light I saw out of the corner of my eye looked like it had actually struck my toilet. Do you enjoy lightning storms or are you afraid of them? If you are familiar with them, what precautions do you recommend? I did unplug all my electronic equipment to avoid any power surges. Do you do the same? Or is it relatively safe to run your electronic equipment even in a lightning storm? Any advice?

In Queensland on a beach I heard thunder and saw lightening in the sky. The rain came down and it was a dramatic plus very memorable. I think it was a special experience because it was so powerful and interesting. I keep my electrical equipment on in a time of thunder and lightening. I am not afraid but understand the feeling you had in the bathroom. A shot of lightening nearby could be very frightening. Further away it is not such a worry.

When there's a lightning storm, the first thing I worry about are the pets especially the dogs, second are my young children but the second you could always train. It does not bother me much although the circuit breaker is always ready in case I have to shut down. I also ask people in my house to refrain or turn off the T.V. and computer because these are the most vulnerable piece of equipment, Yeah I must admit that I enjoy a thunder storm, so long as I am not positioned on the highest point such as in a field. Nature is really awesome to the point of being spectacular

Yup, if we take the proper precautions we can enjoy these light shows without fear.

You might want to unplug your computer, but almost everything else is safe. I don't even do that any more... I know, I'm bad

lol...yeah, I'm bad, too. I'm so connected to my computer, it's like weaning a baby to try and get me to shut it off!

I love these storms actually. The louder and the more lightning, the better. I actually do unplug as much as possible to avoid a possible power surge when it comes back on. I unplug major things like the computer, tv and microwave especially. They say not to shower or bathe during a storm but I always have with no problems. Also, you are not supposed to use the phone and I've always done that too with no consequences. I'm not afraid of them at all but I do respect them and their potential danger. I knew a guy that was struck and killed by lightening a few years back and when I was younger, I was babysitting and it struck the barn right next to the house and caused a fire. I was 11 so it was pretty intense. Where I work, we used to have a tv for customers to watch and that got struck. When I was a kid, my mom was afraid of them. We had to sit in the dark with her transister radio listening to the storm reports. We'd have candles going. She was so afraid of them and for some reason, I just found it all so exciting and fun.Love em!

Yes, I'm with you on that score. I've always loved them. They are so pretty and I was never afraid but do respect them. It's the same with wildlife like bears that so many folks are afraid of...I don't fear them but do respect their space. I especially loved to watch the thunder storms at night. They are truly one of Nature's marvels.

I am definitely afraid of them. I used to hide under my covers from lightning storms when I was a kid. I still want to do that now sometimes!
