UCL Final: Bayern Vs Chelsea

Bayern Munich qualified for the UEFA Champions League final by beating hot favourite Real Madrid on penalties. Yesterday, Chelsea booked their place in the final by seeing off mis-firing Barcelona. Many earlier predicted an all-Spanish final thinking that both Real Madrid and Barcelona will ease their ways into the final, this was not to be. It's even more shocking that no Spanish side will feature in the final in May. At this juncture, many may feel that Bayern Munich may have upper hand to lift the coveted trophy because the match will be played in their stadium and a number of key Chelsea players are to be suspended for the match. Well, we should all learn from our past predictions and keep our fingers crossed. Anyway, I'm happy that the two finalists are not the teams many expected in the final; it's good for the game. What do you think?

I am a Bayern Munchen fan since the age of 9, from the moment I started watching football. Now I am almost 23 and you can imagine how good is to see that my favorite team is the first one to play the final of the UCL in its own ground. Personally, I was very confident that Bayern will knock Real out, because Bayern is the only team which has positive balance against Real Madrid in the European competitions. The final will be hard, but I have high hopes that Bayern will manage to lift the trophy and nobody can challenge their merits.

I think you must be over the moon now. Are you going to the Allianz arena for the final? I am also rooting for Bayern Munich for the final. Cheers! Ram

I wish I was living in Munchen, but I live far far away, so it is impossible for me to acquire a ticket. I will be over the moon if Bayern will win the trophy, I've been waiting for it since 2001. I guess you cannot cheer for the arch-rival of your favorite team, Arsenal.

Instead of the El-Classico everyone was expecting, it is the other classic between two teams that know how to defend. I think Bayern would be extra charged up as this is a final at their home. Chelsea on the other hand have been waiting for this one title for a decade now and would be eager to end the drought. Cheers! Ram

Yes, Di Matteo has done a great job since taking over the Chelsea job. But I am not sure if he is the right one for the long run. It will only become clear based on what activities he is able to in the transfer window and how does he plan the team for the long run. Cheers! Ram

While I think that Di Matteo has done a good job after Villas-Boas departure, the victory against Barcelona was a lucky one in my view as it was the Chelsea veterans who rose to the occasion and lifted the team when they needed it. Though Di Matteo has maintained some sort of stability in the team, him being the head coach of Chelsea is unimaginable as Chelsea needs someone there for the long term to keep that sort of stability and reliability in a great team.

Happy Bayern fan here!!! hehe. I was expecting a different scenario than the one most have stated, about an el classico final. These year's semis showed big flaws in Barcelona and in Mourinho teams. Barcelona seems to be trapped in their own way of playing whenever the opponent defends well and doesn't give spaces, since the tiki taka isn't about crossing the ball from the side in the box so they mostly passed the ball to the side and then back to the center, trying to find an hole. About the Mourinho teams doesn't seem to be able to handle penalty shootouts :) About the final I hope Bayern to be victorious, even though I think that if wanted another team to win it this year than the ones I support I would say it is definitely Chelsea. They deserve their spot in the final I just hope so they won;t be as good as before :)

I feel Bayern Munich deserved their place in the final of the UCL, Chelsea, uuhm, I'm not so sure. I have to agree with you that Barcelona dug their own grave by not changing their style of play and making the same mistakes more than once.

I didn't mean that they were better than Barcelona or even Napoli, It's just that they performed closer to their limits than their opponents so they did deserve the final spot since they did try that hard. :)

The final match is going to be between Bayern Munich and Chelsea and not Bayern Munich against Barcelona. Chelsea knocked out Barcelona on 3-2 goals aggregate.

I also think this unexpected final is good for the game because it shows us that soccer remains an unpredictable game and that's what makes it so fascinating, among others;Bayern is favorite because the final is played in Munich, but I read on the UEFA site that there are 17.500 tickets for Chelsea fans as well, which means that there won't be an overwhelming atmosphere for Chelsea, and we must not forget that there are also three Bayern players who can't play in the final, and I'm sure that if Chelsea play with the same spirit of sacrifice they showed in Barcelona they can defeat the Germans. One thing is certain:it's going to be an amazing final.

I agree with you that it's going to be a great final. Chelsea is on high after edging out the great Barca and the players feel that they can take on any team. Bayern Munich players equally have all to play for and won't like to be disgraced in their own backyard. Let's pray for clement weather, good officiating and well-behaved fans.

This is the final I wanted. Like in the semi-finals where most predictions were for an all-Spanish final - they were right if only qualities of players and past performances were the only criteria to consider. What can not be foreseen is the strategy and tactic that will be used in the match. Di Matteo demonstrated his genius in handling a better attacking team. Bayern Munich is the favorite now. But my pick is Chelsea, again, just like in the semis, that they will come good against an onslaught from Bayern Munich. I hope Chelsea wins.

It was not too long ago that people were touting an all Spanish final. It seems both Bayern Munich and Chelsea have other plans in their mind. As pointed out, Bayern Munich will be the favourite since the final is played on their home ground. But never rule out Chelsea to go against the script.

On paper Bayern Munich may be considered to be the favourite to lift the trophy at stake but only because the match will be played on their pitch. In reality one feels each of the teams has done enough to be champions.

Both team are good come back from behind to move forward into final. I wish congrats for both team and hope Chelsea gonna win the final. Really awesome play to beat barca which is really mentally and physically strong team. The blue hold a new record and achieve something that we haven't do which is step forward into final. They should win the champion league once which is never won before.

With the way Chelsea "dismantled" the almost invincible Barcelona one might be tempted to bet that the blues are sure to lift the trophy at stake. However, football is not that easy to predict. Bayern Munich did a great job too to see off Real Madrid. Well, we all have to wait patiently till May 19, 2012 to know the new champions of Europe. May the better team win!
