Why do some people suffer from depression more than others?

I get so depressed sometimes, and it has been that way since I was a small child. Anything can affect my mood and trigger those symptoms. I just wish I could understand what it really is.

Depression does come right in many stages and rather in many different states, but gets pigeonholed right into one thing. Some people tend to really fall right into that bad state due to something that rather tends to be triggered by remembering a rather traumatic event. Then for others, it is really just the something where the littlest thing can set them off. It really is one of those things that depends on each and every individual person. We all have brains that work in different ways. Therefore anything that mentally affects us will also work in rather different ways as well. That is just the state of the game, and really it is something that as we learn more about what is happening, there will be something that will be uncovered.

Some people are naturally more susceptible to depression than others because of their genes, and there isn't all that much that we can do about that. However, we can learn ways that we can cope with our depression. I have found that I am more prone to it than other people, but if I exercise it can make me feel a lot better than I had done before. Doing this gives me such a buzz, and it has meant that I have been able to lose a bit of weight as well so now I feel a lot better about myself than I have ever done in the past before.

Everyone has different brain chemicals. The enzyme in your brain that causes you to feel good is called Ceratonin. The more ceratonin your brain produces, the happier you feel. If you feel like your brain doesn't produce enough ceratonin, you can go to a doctor and be prescribed anti-depressants. They're not addictive and you cannot overdose on them. It is not a pill that has chemicals in it. What it does is it lets your brain produce more ceratonin and keep it flowing for longer; therefore, making you feel happier.

If you talk about a real depression than it's in the dna. It's seldom you are the only one who deals with it. Also the older you get the more frequently it will show. You need to know yourself, accept yourself, be able to recognize when it starts and if possible do what you need to do to stop it before it really starts. This won't mean you can always stop it, it also doesn't mean you are a loser, weak or so. If there is a good reason to feel that way, admit it, accept it, allow yourself to let yourself go for 1-2 days and kick yourself out of bed again. You know you survived the times before so you can do that again (keep that in mind). Fact is also that a depression can come just out of nowhere. There is no reason, it can even start if you feel satisfied or happy. Invest time in yourself, find out (write down) in what cases you get depressed. Might be that a part of what triggers it can be reduced.
