A year of the massive comic Sequels

This summer, there are 3 massive movies coming to the big screens, all of which are further follow ups to other movies, and have their biggest strings, through comic books. First of all, the big one opening this week is Avengers, the story of the top elite heroes of the Marvel comic world coming together as a force for mankind, against an evil group striving against the heroes. This movie combines Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, most of which have had their own movies, containing lead-ups to this event in the conclusion. I'm not the biggest on seeing it, but perhaps if it gets some great reviews, and I feel like just watching a wild action movie, I'll go to see it. Next, coming in June, Prometheus, a prequel to the series of Alien movies, this one done by the original maker of the first Alien movie, Ridley Scott. After discovering a clue to the true origin of the humans on Earth, the crew finds more then what they bargained for, which begins a battle for the human race. It sounds interesting, and I love the Alien movies... the first one by Ridley Scott being my favorite of the whole series. This got so big that it spawned a huge comic series, including a giant list of Alien vs Predator stories. I will be watching this one in the theatre, mainly because, I just love a good sci-fi film. Then, coming in July, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Like the last two, this is being done by Christopher Nolan. It's really the same plot as always... Batman is seen as a criminal in the views of the city, after taking the blame for the crimes of two face, but he pulls himself back in as Bane overwhelms Gotham, and he must be the silent hero. Nolan's last Batman movie, The Dark Knight, had the single largest opening weekend of that time (now beaten by Harry Potter's last movie) at 158 million. This shows that Batman and Nolan are a force to be reckoned with... although I feel with this one, the series of Batman has been so overdone (this being movie #8) that I'm just not as wild about seeing it. Perhaps I'll wait for it to come to video. So, what are your opinions? Are you excited to be seeing any of these in the theatre this year?

I was definitely looking forward to this year in 2011. I knew about a lot of movies coming out. I'm still waiting to see the Hunger Games, but the new Underworld was very bad. I'm not too keen on the new Spider-Man movie, nor do I care about the new "Bourne" movie without Matt Damon. But The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are definitely on my list. Prometheus looks like it might be good. It has some legitimate acting power in it, meaning that it's an attempt at a blockbuster, meaning that we can expect some good imagery, a longer runtime, plenty of action and attention to detail. Plus what we know about the evolution of technology, from our own technological evolution, makes for more plausible--or at least cleaner-looking--effects and equipment in these space movies today. There are tons of upcoming movies I'm excited about seeing. The new Men in Black, The Expendables 2, the new G.I. Joe, Battleship, Wrath of the Titans, the new Resident Evil, Ghost Rider, and the new Die Hard (my favorite!). Now if we can just get a new Rambo, I can die happy.
