FA Cup: Chelsea v Liverpool

Singapore

The finals of the FA Cup is finally here. It will be aired tomorrow at 17.15 depending on which part of the world you are in, but it will be two clubs that have struggled for much of the season. Liverpool is facing a crisis at home, unable to secure victories at Anfield while Chelsea has been riding high on a wave of morale recently following their victory over Barcelona in the Champions Leaguesemi-final. With Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll bound to play for their clubs, both of them have become heroes overnight having scored the winners for their teams but who will emerge top? What are you views? Who do you think deserves to be the FA Cup Champions?

Chelsea winning the FA Cup - Chelsea has won the FA Cup 6 times:
Winners (6): 1969–70, 1996–97, 1999–00, 2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10
Runners-up (4): 1914–15, 1966–67, 1993–94, 2001–02
Liverpool is en route to winning 2 cups. Chelsea is in 2 cup finals. But the other cup that Chelsea is in is very much bigger than the milk cup that Liverpool has got. Looks like the same but different in class. Both clubs have just tasted bitter home defeats before this final but again, Liverpool lost to Fulham, a mid-table team while Chelsea was beaten by a Champions League spot chasing team in Newcastle. Looks like the same but different in class. Chelsea is always well organized. Their football may not be the prettiest but they are always effective. Liverpool can play smoothly when they are on song but it is the exception rather the norm this season. Carroll has been mostly disappointing while Torres is picking up well. I will take Chelsea.

Yeah Frank Lampard will definitely want to savour that moment again as can be seen in the picture. However, Chelsea may not be playing in full force with the latest news that the two centrebacks, David Luis and Gary Cahill, are ruled out of the game with hamstring injuries. Maybe inexperience in Chelsea defence will cost them a victory and a trophy, do you think there are anyone else in the team who are good replacements?

Terry and Ivanovic are good central defender partnerships with Bosingwa and Cole at right and left backs. The 4 of them are very experienced players. Mata, Torres or Drogba, Sturridge are quick and skillful - they will create a lot of problems for the Liverpool defense with Lampard, Ramires and Meireles in support.

both of them get lost in their previous game.. liverpool lost in anfield by fulham and chelsea was lost by newcastle in stamford bridge so this week, they play for their pride.. its hard for predicting both of them get a roller coaster performance..

yeah other than playing for pride, each side is determined to get another trophy into their portfolio. Liverpool won the Carling cup earlier this year and want another silverware to compensate for their poor performance in the league. As for Chelsea, they have so far accomplished nothing and would want the FA Cup Trophy as a booster to their upcoming battle with Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

I was looking forward to Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres starting the game. While Andy Carroll eventually did come on as a substitute to play, it was disappointing not to see Torres play in the final especially when he is in good form at the moment. Anyway, Chelsea won the game yesterday afternoon at Wembley after fighting off a determined Liverpool in the last half an hour. I do not think that Liverpool deserved to lose, but Chelsea has been quick and furious in their counter-attacks.

I pick Liverpool over Chelsea any day. Remember that Chelsea are the original Mr. Moneybags. On the other hand, Liverpool are trying to get back to their old legacy, but are finding it difficult to get some consistency going. But with the Carling Cup already tucked away this season, a cup double is on the cards. Cheers! Ram

Yes, a lot of people feel wrong done by the amount of money power that Man City is able to flex in the transfer window. In that scenario, this whole thing was started by Chelsea who were the initial Moneybags when Roman took over. Cheers! Ram

Yeah I agree that a cup double is definitely on the cards of Kenny Dalglish, good point there! :) But what do you mean by Chelsea being the original Mr. Moneybags, meaning they are willing to splurge to get good players like how Manchester City is doing now?

Well since they both reached the final they both deserve it but I think that Chelsea has a small advantage against Liverpool, though since it is a derby it won't really matter as soon as the ref signals the start of the match.

It would be a bloody match specially for Liverpool. Since Liverpool got nothing to lose, they will make it as a final battle to get the only one trophy for this season. While for Chelsea, even they want to get a double winner this season. But they will play carefully to prevent lost their player from injure in order to face the Champion League final. I personally want Liverpool win the FA Cup their raise their pride again.
