When I get home in the evening and I turn on the television, I get frustrated to see soaps that exaggerate the plot and characters in order to appeal to the emotions. I am not fond of local soaps that are characterized by exaggerated emotions, stereotypical characters, and interpersonal conflicts. They last for several hours and instead of resting they stress me out all the more. That is the reason why, I would rather turn the channel to one that features traveling or other interesting activities. Or, I would turn the channel to cable channels that feature some interesting movies. Or, better yet, Discovery Channel or National Geographic. Sometimes, I would also watch news through BBC or CNN. I personally prefer feel-good shows that would not cause me to get stressed all the more especially after a long day at work.

Yes it's best to avoid soap operas. I agree with you many people get stressed out by all that happens in soap operas. And it's a never ending story there is always something going on in someone's life on there that is happening constantly. Yeah after a long day at work or week we want to feel good not stressed.

Yeah I agree. So many people though love their soap operas and they have to watch it every day. It is really crazy. I think soap operas are way to dramatic.

True enough! This is the main reason why I no longer watch local channels but instead am a fan of cable, not that I watch the tube often. I am more of an internet gal than a couch potato per se. I don't like the drama as well. I don't even like the variety shows they have. Most are truly exaggerated and they're not really helping anyone. Why would one come home from a stressful work to facing stressful family problems then watch a stressful drama series and worry about the character's problems?? You'd give yourself a heart attack pretty soon! All the crying all the revenge plots, all the depression! Whew! This is the main reason why I no longer watch much television. I guess the last time I watched the local channel was several months ago, and I was watching the news. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Right! The crying, the shouting, the violence, the revenge plots, and all the depression... very frustrating. At least for some viewers that is. While it is a good source of income for many networks. Thanks for sharing your opinion laydee!

I never watch soaps or serials of any kind.I prefer reality shows and Discovery,Nat Geo, Animal Planet, TLC, Fox Travels channels because you get a lot of info from them and you get to visit places you would never be able to go to or see events you never imagined would take place.

I like Animal Planet too especially when they feature dogs.

Yeah, i know how you feel. I really hate it when the protagonist is so nice that she just lets everyone else say bad things to her, it so unrealistic these days- and annoying, even i want to hit the female lead. Which is why i watch movies instead- comedies.

Me too. I hate the local soaps. The plot are always the same, the lead characters are also always the same. And they don't act really well. And the ending is predictable and it just gives us negative feelings. I opt for cable channels too. They are much better to watch especially at night.

I only have 1 favorite local soap opera. And, yeah, the rest of them are just rubbish. I hate it when characters keep crying and moaning and fighting. It becomes superficial. If only I had cable or satellite tv, I would be watching US series, instead. I like those with vampire-themes and also police stories or investigative plot.

I completely agree with you. I am not interested in shows that play on my emotions. I' not interested in music that does that either. As a matter of fact, when I really want to escape, I will listen to music that was not recorded in English, simply to avoid having to listen to other people, and totally escape! LOL

I find those soaps practically pathetic. The same plots over and over again in a different story. The film industry in our country is stuck in that genre forever. Congratulations! You have broken the bond from it and have immersed yourself with better shows that have true substance and value. Thumbs up!
