Can Anyone suggest me a good macro lens for my canon 20d? I am planning to buy one since I already got a lens for portrait and landscape. It doesn't have to be canon brand as long s it can produce good quality of image. Thanks.

I've got a Canon Macro lens ef-s 60 mm, 1:2.8 USM. It's quite good, but to get really close I have to use close-up filters. For the price it's good though, I bought it in the UK so it was slightly cheaper than here in Norway. If you can afford it, I'd say a longer one would be better, so you don't have to get that close. The one I'd really like to buy is the Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5X. It magnifies up to 5 times, but as it's not really good to use for anything other that macro shots (the one I have is quite good for portrait) I haven't been able to afford it yet.

i have been looking at the canon 60mm for a while. i think it really produce good quality image. and it can also be a good portrait lens. but i already have my 50mm for portrait. is the canon mp-e 65mm a 1:1?

1:1 to 1:5. I've seen pictures of it, it looks a bit like a telescope :-) It is really long when you use it on the 1:5 part. And as it magnifies you can get really good pictures of parts of small things, not just the small things. Once I get a proper job I'm going to get one :-) Just because I want it! ;-)

How about the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM? This lens can focus down to 1:1 without an adaptor, and it also works well with Canon's macro ring light. Even at normal distances, this is in incredibly sharp lense.

You can try out EF 100mm f/2,8 Macro USM lens for Canon it’s a prime lens that is quite narrower with depth of field compared to the standard 50mm lens. Some alternatives you can try out, are from Sigma line up of lenses, they are quite affordable as well.
