the greeting card envelope - A rainbow of greeting card envelopes

When you shop for a greeting card, if the card comes with an envelope that you don't like, will you look around for the kind/color of greeting card envelope amongst the other greeting card envelopes on display, and use one of the other envelopes instead? If you don't do this, does it bother you if other people do? Why?

Ok, ok, I admit it, I am guilty as charged! I do this all the time, especially if the envelope that is behind the card is white. How boring is white? I mean, I have this beautiful, colourful card in my hand and there's a white envelope staring at me. So begins my search for an envelope that nicely matches the card. If the colours in the card are blue and yellow, for example, I'll search for either a blue envelope or a yellow envelope, but it has to match. I do, however, make sure that I take an envelope that is the proper size. I never take one that's bigger than the original envelope as that would leave a bigger card without an envelope. Sometimes the cards and envelopes are so mixed up and all over the place that it doesn't really matter what envelope you take...at least that's what I tell myself to justify my taking a different envelope, lol. Honestly, I thought EVERYBODY did this

Hello Suebee I also think it's important to make sure the envelope is the proper size. There have been times when I've been selecting a card, only to discover the envelope provided with it isn't the proper size! Yikes! I also like the matching of the colors. Alas, a white envelope seems so unimaginative. Peace.

hi dear PageTurner, normally I dont pay much attention to the envelopes. Normally the cards plus envelopes are sealed here so you cant change the envelope which comes eith the card,.........

Hello RitterSport I have seen a few cards and envelopes sealed together in the shops here, but that is not the usual case. Thanks for speaking up on the subject!

As soon as I had submitted my answer I knew something was missing. I find it very practical when cards and envelope are sealed so you wont write a card and then start a frantic search for a fitting envelope. LOL

In most places I've seen in the USA, the cards and the envelope that goes with it are on display, but not sealed. When you select a card, the corresponding envelope is behind it. But you may not like the envelope that comes with it; for instance, it could be a drab color and you may want a brighter color envelope. So sometimes people will select an envelope that is on display with some of the other cards.

Frankly, I never pay that much attention to the envelope of the greeting card, yet, of course, there are some nicer than others, but I think that the most important is the card itself. If other people change the envelope, well, I donĀ“t mind, as long as this will not afect me, but I have never seen other people do this anyway.

Yes, albto_568, I agree that what's on the inside is more important than what's on the outside...just like people!

I'll suggest to the vendor. I think that we shouldn't do that. It's impolite.

I mostly used to get a good car not an envelope. I don't care about the envelopes. It doesn't matter how it is. If I find it is very bad I try to exchange it or buy a good envelope which will suite my card.

good evening page turner...the psychoartist is all about the colors, the effects the aesthetic, the mood....so i must admit that i will on occasion mix and match card envelopes on store boughten cards if i feel the card is originally paired with an unattractive color or arrangement...although of course, the psychoartist prefers to paint and create her own greeting cards, but also like other kinds...particularly vintage greeting cards...

I also think that having the right colour envelope for the card is essential, the psychoartist. Sometimes the envelope that is matched with the card is perfectly dreadful, and I can only think that either it was a mistake, or that the card company had a handful of blind monkeys doing the sorting that day, and mistakes were made. Besides, what if I sent the dreadful colour envelope with the card? Looking beyond my own reputation, what of the reputation of the card company? I am sure they would appreciate the colour coordinating and the happy response of the card receiver, and this will increase reputation of card company. No?

greetings pageturner..i appreciate your answers and responses and your are right, ones reputation could be at stake here...the psychoartist prefers to send colorful greeting cards and envelopes as i would like to imagine the people receiving the cards expressions of joy and delight when they receive the card! of course, having a vivid imagination, the psychoartist could be all wrong wrong wrong.

i always make my own cards for every occasion. i sometimes buy the kits but mostly, just cut out paper and use an envelope that i have gotten (some stores will sell just envelopes for missing cards for real cheap). i seldom buy a card because they are so expensive!

Yes i remember asking the shop attendant for the matching envelopes for my greeting cards last holiday. It does not bother me much but it will look awkward or 'I don't care' kinda thing if i am the person who gets the card with a pink card in the yellow envelope. Thats how i see.

Thanks Page..and well Ritter, to this date i have never came across one with a sealed one. May be i was just ignorant but i'll look for those just for my curiosity, next time i go for shopping cards. But even if they have one, I'd really wish I could see whats written in the inside of the card. I kinda read and think how the words in it should sound to/affect the recipient. It's my thinking that the cards should not merely go out without a proper words that i have for the recipients. Be it b'day, christmas, new year, Get well soon and or any sorta cards. If it must and must only have the picture/cartoon/images and or any sort of designs but words, they must be real artistic and meaningful or the person on the other hand should be able to get the message clear by just looking at its art or design.

hi rekhum I answer you here so you find it easier.... LOL..... I am not offended. We are not half as good with all these greeting cards for various occasions as the Americans are. Have been to the US and seen it myself. For a greeting cards and starionary freak like me its heaven on earth. No I am talking about stuff like Birthday cards and such. Some have a text inside most of them dont, or something like Best Wishes, Have a Nice Day or so. But the card and envelope are always sealed together in plastic foil.

Normally, I don't mind the card. I pay more attention to the content of the card. The content I choose depends on who will receive the card. If the person is wacky, I give a card with humor. If a person is serious, I choose a very touchy message. All the greeting cards here in our country have a uniform envelope, white envelope that fits the card. =D

Yes, the content is most important, chan2zexy. In our country there is variety of colour of envelopes for the card. Thanks for sharing! :)

If the envelope is too bad, I'd look around to find a better one. But I guess in more instances those envelopes are moderate in design and will not think that they unsuitable. For those who prefer to find other envelopes I think it's only a matter of personal choice and we should not be emotionally disturbed by it.

hi, No we have to accept the envelope coming with the card. No other option to buy another cards envelope. Otherwise we have to buy a greeting card and envelope separate and to take a proper care to see that the said envelope matches with the card and has enough space to accomodate a card.

As the postal service slowly become hsitory and eventually goes the way of the setting sun, there will be no need for colorful envelopes when you can send a flashy greting card via the net to grannys tablet! Just, I hope we don't start lcking the screens!

Sure PageTurner, I would look around the gift shop to see which I like and how to will match the greeting card. As we know that the envelope is the first impression that the recipient will get about our gift. You that first Impression last longer. If I cannot get a suitable envelope, I will go the next gift shop to see if I will get it. Only when it becomes tasking that I will pick an envelope that will fair in packaging my gift.

You are so right about the first impression with the envelope, Chikezie! Well said!!

The envelope should as nice as the card. Because some people can even keep the gift envelope longer than necessary in their house or even use it to send a gift to another person as long as it has no initials or name on it.

I don't see any harm in it. As long as the envelopes are the same size. I personally haven't done this, because I don't think it makes much difference what color the envelope is.

All the greeting cards that are being sold here come with one type of envelope only and it's colored white. Didn't really bother with that at all and when people change theirs, doesn't bother me too. Just really didn't think about that and just don't care.

hi PageTurner, I surely do exchange envelopes sometimes for s matching color..especially if there is an envelope in color that matches my card better. Frankly, I don't see a problem with it because if i just exchange there is still an envelope left for a card.... If I honestly thought there was something wrong with it I truly not do it....

Hi pageturner,Well for me the wording of the card are more important than the envelope.Usually the envelopes of other cards do not fit in all the cases. But if some people are so particular about the envelope and they tend to place it with the envelope of other card it don't bother me much as some are just trying to be perfectionist are cannot curb their mix and match tendencies.

Yes, sometimes the envelopes of the other cards do not fit in all cases, so it's a good thing to check no matter which envelope you choose -- just to be safe.
