Questions for your Doctor

I don't know how many of you feel free to question your Doctor, but I have found that this is a very important part of the relationship. Just in the last month I have twice questioned the results of tests requested by my Doctor. Both times I felt that the results just didn't make sense to me. I am very glad that I did question these, both times the test just didn't tell the whole story. One said I had a heart attack in the past, this proved to be untrue, the computer's guidelines were in error, another test came back incomplete, stating that I did not have enough cells to do the test, this made no sense and sure enough when the Doctor, herself reviewed the test she found this report to be in error and once corrected, had the test and the results promptly. I don't know who's fault this was and I don't care, what I did learn was if facts learned don't make sense, ask and keep asking until you are satisfied.

These results are all done by, in my opinion, incompetent people. And also some of the computer programs are created by idiots as well. It's not the doctors fault things get screwed up, it is the incompetence of the people doing these tests. That is the sad part. They go to school for a short time to become something simple. The they think they know it all. They should have the same training as a nurse, a real nurse, not a make believe nurse.

Of course I have only seen the techs who work directly with the people, not the ones who work behind the scene. But the techs I have met and worked with have all seemed to be hard working, competent people and most are caring enough to make sure I was a comfortable as possible. Since I have several issues that are not life threatening but are very painful I really bless those who read my charts and take these into consideration whenever they can.

Ultimately the doctor has to get the results and read them. But like I said, there are people that don't know exactly what they are doing. Like for instance, if you go for a blood test, wether the doctor take the blood or not, it gets sent out to a lab. Lots of problems happen in the lab. You're not there to see whats going on and neither is the doctor. So sometimes the results get screwed up. Thats why I am not a major fan of doctors. But if I need to I will go and see a few different doctors and get a few opinions. After all, we take more time with our cars getting fixed right then ourselves. It's worth the extra effort to know exactly what is going on with our health.

I think that it is very good that you feel as though you're able to ask your doctor things about your health. If you were not able to do this, then you would never have found out that your results weren't quite right. Doctors are human beings as well, and they can make errors, and this means that they might make a mistake with something to do with your health. If ever we feel that there's something that isn't quite right, we should always feel as though we should be able to talk to them, as it is much better to be safe than sorry.

i read a story in a women's magazine about a lady who went to 20 some odd doctors before she got a diagnosis of her rare disease. you have to take care of your health because no one else will.

Hi savypat, I have a very open relationship with my family doctor and I can and usually do question everything. I know that I'm very fortunate to have had the same doctor for almost thirty years and to have such an understanding person as well. He is some six years younger than me and I joke that he has to stay well too, because I don't want to have to change doctors twenty years from now lol! Blessings.

I ask my doctors all I need to know until I´m satisfied with the answers. I feel deeply that the person who cares most about my health is my own self so that I´m entitled to know enough as to help care for it. Many tests are inconclusive: doctor should explain why. If a doctor wants to take the role of the medicine man (and I, poor mortal should let him do whatever he thinks, without explaining, I go to someone else.

I always ask a lot about things like to doctor or to someone whom I am with or dealing with.Maybe I am really so talkative that's why I used to and always ask things.I guess I could be a good thing so that I could know answers to some things and inquiries.

Well we can't all get used talking with our Doctors. We are not there everyday huh. It is good to ask everything when you are are visiting doctors because there might be something that they can forget or make a mistake and then it could get worse. We shouldn't be so shy when we are visiting doctors. I know people that are so shy that just can't tell the doctor about their problems or asking them about something. It is good that you questioned the results and see that there might be some problems with them. And yeah there are often doctor mistakes in the results and all that so we should be sure that everything is OK with them. Well the health is important!!!

I think you should change the laboratory or the hospital who giving you a wrong test result because they to be accurate and consistent in terms of test result. Good communication with your doctor is a good idea because you can easily approached the doctor regarding your health condition. Good thing that the doctor corrected your test if not they might given you a wrong diagnosis, wrong treatment and wrong medication which leads you to harmful effects to your health condition. In my situation, I always asked the doctor everything concerning about my health to know the possible treatment or cure for it. Asking questions are free and you can lots of things about your health condition if you asked the right person which is the doctor.
