Do you remember everything or write down your daily tasks?

I have the habit to take notes and make priority lists for everything. Mainly in my job but also in my personal life. I strongly belive that without those notes, I will forget the important things that I need to do during my day. The problem is that I have learned to depend on those lists and I can't remember many of my priorities without checking first. Some of my friends have the ability to easily remember dates, deadlines and other important stuff. I have a friend that can tell me the date of every important past event, for example what date we went on vacation 3 years ago, or when a photo of us was taken with impressive accuracy! I admire people that can remember so many things without having to check their organiser and I wish I was one of them!

To be honest,I have been a bit lazy in preparing notes. It seems me boring.I just quietly remember works one after one that I have got to finish on a particular day.Thereafter I don't forget them.I think, remembering it depends on you.If you realize the importance of your works, you would never forget them.It is difficult,I admit, but you can remember it.

That's true and it needs practice and focus on the important tasks. But it feels better for me to have the notes and get back to them whenever I need them. Thank you for sharing! :)

I have to write things down. I think I will remember but I don't. After my last accident my memory is shot. And I do journal so I can check back over certain dates and happenings. That helps me alot. Photos with the date and time would be really helpful wouldn't they?

I also use the Yahoo Calender to remind me of things coming up. Whatever helps right?!

Yes they definitely are helpful. I am the worst with dates! I remember only the important birthdays in my family and for everything else I have to check facebook or my mobile! It is good that you have managed to continue your work which is very demanding after having an accident. It's very important to think in a positive way and believe that we can do everything if we have the will and a good method!

There are many times I have been known to Write down lists of things I needed to get done, or things I need to do before important events, etc. I have even wrote down things like a Grocery list before shopping, etc. I personally feel there is nothing wrong with doing this, and if it helps you get more done in your life, and remember more things than keep on doing so.

I completely agree, and it's not only helpful for remembering what you have to do but also, a list helps you remember what you've done which might be useful in the future! Thanks Krausehome :)

When I was a child my grandmother has a picture on the wall of a native american woman that she said was full blood Cherokee and one of her grandmother's.My grandmother passed away when I was ten. Then when I was twenty-six and had a medical condition that kept me from only working part time I was bored and decided to start researching my family tree to find out who exactly this woman was. There was no information, such as name, date or place on the back of the photo Most of the other older family members were also deceased,so I could not ask them if they knew who she was.I began going through the other older pictures that my grandmother had in a box and found many other photos with no information on them.It has been a long time and I still have not found out who these people are or who that Cherokee woman was. It is very important to always document your photo's.Put the names of who is in the picture on the back, along with the date, place and occasion....such as a birthday party,Christmas, graduation, moving day, etc. I keep even when certain bills are due on my calendar on my phone synced to my gmail online with a reminder as well. It does not matter if you are one of those people that should write down due dates, names, birthdays, phone numbers and addresses.Put them on your calender on your online and also make sure that someone else has access,a person that you can trust.Because one day things might change, you may have a medical reason not to remember so good anymore or you may unexpectadly not even be on this earth anymore. Always better safe then sorry.

Cherokee Woman - This picture is of a full blood Cherokee woman that my grandmother said she was one of her grandmother's.
Hi Stowyk, Well duh,how can she become a member of the tribe if she does not find out the information. Hi Besweet,Thanks, our history is very important.Actually digital camera's are a better way of recording stuff.See my discussion about photo's. I am adding that picture. Please let me know if you have any idea's.

It's an interesting story I hope you will be able to find the answers one day. We are so consumed by the everyday life that we forget about our history and we also forget to transfer it to the next generations somehow. I was one of the persons that used to take notes and write about the dates and events behind the pictures but now with the digital cameras all the photos are inside my computer and it's not that easy any more.

I make grocery lists. It all began many years ago, when I had a good memory but threw into the cart a lot of things I should not buy. It helped me stay in my budget. Now I do it for other reasons. When I have sevreal important things to do, I make lists. If it´s going to be routine, I use the lonely gray cell I have left.

I have noticed that whenever I was going to the supermarket with a list a strange thing was happening. After looking at the list, I was searching for the milk for example and I was passing by all the shelves in the supermarket without being distracted because I was focused on the item that I was looking for. When I was going without a list, I had my shopping cart almost full before I reach the milk section! That's why I never go without a list! But yes, if it is something specific like going to the bank and the post office, I don't take any notes.

I started on grocery lists many decades ago, the first time we had money problems with my husband. We went together to the super and we both threw things into the cart. Once, when we reached the cashier, I asked my husband to let me take the food out by myself. I separated the esentialss from the extras and asked for twoadditions. THe neededfood was cheaper than the rest. I never went without a list again even when our economics improved.

If the event is so important, i'll put in on my androidmemo. But most of the time, i'll take the risk of just storing it on my mind haha.. i'm also insecure with those photographic memories. I also wish that i'm one of them because i can really use that on my future accounting profession. I'm a graduating student now and i forgot so many lessons already and i should have to make up for the CPA Board exam.

My memory suring the uni was also very short! But all those courses that we have studied are somewhere in the beck of our mind, you will realise it when you start working. Sometimes I surprise myself with the things that I remember from the uni. However writing notes was always helpful for me, I remember that since high school it was much more easier to study based on on a timeline that I had created. Good luck with your exam!

Hmmm, you're right in some aspects. When practical applications is on the scene, i'll just notice that some procedures are still on my mind letting my hands to work with it. In highschool, Algebra is the only subject that i mastered and couldn't forget the rules and applications. :) But in terms of terminologies, i just cant help myself and can't do nothing to retain these terminologies. However, i'm still lucky that procedures are staying on my mind.

Yes, I always write down my daily tasks for the day on my notebook.. even for the week even. There are so many deadlines to meet at work that without a notebook, it will be quite impossible to remember most of things. I believe it is a good way to keep track of my life as well, and make sure that what needs to be done is done.

For me it ends up being a combination of two basic methods. I will try my hardest to remember everything that I need to accomplish at any given time. Most times I will be able to keep a pretty good grasp on most of what I need to do. Tasks will either be on my mind all day or organically be triggered in my thought process as needing to be done. When I have busy days I will usually let this be the only way I remember. Not having a list allows my mind to kind of prioritize my tasks naturally. The ones that I think about actively are usually the ones that need to get done first or are the most urgent. Meanwhile, on days off from work it is better for me to write down all these tasks. It keeps me on line because on these days off I might not be thinking constantly about getting things done. On days off I want to relax a little bit and might lose myself and my tasks altogether. By writing a list on these days I can refer to it without having to be actively thinking about everything I need to do.

It seems that you have a great talent in prioritising tasks in your mind. This is an ability that I would like to have but unfortunately I am a stressful person and if I keep everything in my mind I will forget the priorities. I prefer writing the tasks down and focus on the job behind them, this way I can work better. You are right, on the days off we should enjoy our time and have fun while taking a break from all that work pressure!

When I was young, I had a good memory, so I will remember what I had to do and then did one after another. But now, I find that it is quite easy for me to forget things. Sometimes I think that something is important to do, but after setting put to work, I forget it totally, when go to bed and look back my day, I soon find that I forget to do it. Now I usually make a list for my daily work and things I have to do. After one of them are done, I will move it off my list. So that I can make sure I will not leave something important undone.

When we were younger we were forced to remember more things, now everything is easier and I think that's why we need to make all those lists. When I was 15, I had to have all the phones in my mind because I didn't have a mobile with me and now I can't remeber my second number! However in work making tasks is very important and every time I complete a task and move to the other, I feel happiness the moment that I erase it in my organizer! Thank you for your comment :)

I remember a lot of things, but I always make sure that I have a list as well. Because I live at home and work here as well, there are many times where my family will ask me to do things because they don't have the time to do so during the course of the day, and I will often forget to do the things that they have asked of me unless I write them down and keep the list on my desk during the day. I will try to do all of my errands in the morning so that they're out of the way, and I will then do my work in the afternoon when everything else is done and I have nothing more to worry about.

I think that your working style is close to mine. I go to the office every day, but when I come back I am really tired and I have prepared a list of the things that need to be done for the next day, or even for the same afternoon. I also have a list of my shopping on the fridge and everytime I run out of something I add it on the list. I go to the super market only once a week and it's not easy to remember everything! Thank you for your comment! Have a nice day :)

I don't have a good memory so I write everything down. In my dayplanner I write meetings, work, birthdays, appointments and other things that I have to remember. Some time ago I almost forgot that I had to work on a day where I don't usually work, and that showed me how important it is write everything down in my dayplanner This year I decided to write every birthday in my dayplanner, because I am not that good at remembering people's birthdays. I wrote down every single birthday...but I missed a birthday anyway, because I forgot to check my dayplanner I also have a friend who has a really good memory. He doesn't own a calendar, he simply remembers every task and every meeting or appointment. I am very impressed and I wish that I was able to do the same thing, but I need my lists and my calendars. He also remembers everything that happened in the past, the places we have visited together etc, he remembers a lot of small things that I have forgotten a long time ago.

I have a friend with the same ability! She remembers dates and events that I have completely forgotten. For example she can remember all the beaches that we visited during our vacations 4 years ago, even if they have the most unusual names! She is the best with dates, birthdays and names. It's a great talent to remember all those things and I'd love to have it! Thank you for your response :)

I love to make lists. The best part is when you can cross something off. Sometimes I will add something I have already done, just so I can scrath it out! I always make a list before I go to the store also. If I don't I forget half of what I wanted to get. I can remember some dates if they are important to me, but not all.

I feel the same every time I cross out a completed task on my list and the more important this task is, the more satisfied I feel with myself! :) Having a program and an organising method is very important for some people, including me. That's why I like my lists and I work better with them in my everyday life! Thanks cerebellum!

Sometimes i used to note down certain things which are much important for me. Usually i remember the task or the activities which i need to do but there was some instants which i totally missed out. So i used to note certain important things in my mobile as remainder.

My mobile has saved me many times! But usually I use my organiser or both. My mobile has all the birthdays/ celebrations/ personal and social events and my organiser has my job tasks. It's more convenient for me this way! Thank you for your comment!

Yes, i can relate with your issue about remembering dates.., in our busy life and schedule we cannot afford anymore to let our mind absorb all the important details and important task in our daily activities.. Taking notes is a great help, and taking notes became part of my life since i started to work at the same time study after work...even my password in my online jobs are listed in my notes.

Yes the same happens to me! I have noticed though that strangely enough, some numbers or passwords are always in my mind and I never forget them. For example, I had a phone number when I was a student in UK that got stolen ( I only had it for 5 months). I still remember that without any effort, but I never learned the new number that I bought to replace it, or my second phone number that I own now for 2 years back home. Can you explain how that happens?

No. I don't have a hobby of writing things down. I just go with the flow since i ran my own time. I'm not a organize type of person or the O.C one and i don't remember everything but i just don't like making a reminder or a schedule to follow. I tried creating a list but in the end i didn't follow what is written there, so useless.

Haha :) I never complete the lists 100% too, because most of the times I write more than I can do. But I work better if I have my priorities written on a paper. It sounds nice that you can make your own time and I am sure that you feel free! My boyfriend is like you, I want to plan everything and he wants to decide at the last minute what he feels like doing!

If I have to do many important tasks in one day, then I make a list so I can save time. I check the tasks each time they're accomplished. I notice that it makes me more efficient. I am able to do more and not forget any task. However, if I only have a couple of tasks to do, I don't make a list at all.

Two weeks ago, I had to do many important things all around the city and I coudn't achieve them all without taking notes. When it's about work, I take notes to remember and to make sure that I'll do everything, and feel safe about it :) In my organizer I usually write the hours of the appointments, the addresses and I leave some time between them for safety in case something happens because I don't like being late.

I usually remember most things. Yet, over the year I learned that it is best to have a list. Since even if you do remember, sometimes you neglect the small stuff - and the list help you make sure it will not happen. Also, sometime eventually you don't have the time to do so yourself - so if you have a list you can just give it to someone you trust and ask him / her to do it for you with no need to spend more time on explaining it to him / her.

Actually, this can work well sometimes but it needs to be someone that you trust as you said and you know his/her way of thinking. Because it has happened to me before, tasks that are very clear for me when they are written on my list are not that clear to another person. But when you find someone with a similar way of thinking then you can be sure that everything will be done the way you like.
