What is Reputation, and how does it go up and down?

I am very confused. I had a 6 star, now I have a 4. I would like to know why this is. Can someone please explain this to me? How does this reputation system work, and what does it do?

I am always disappointed when I see a user who passed the 100 mark a long time ago and is still unaware of what the star is for. This means that they have not taken time to understand how myLot works, both for themselves and for others It is never too late to rectify our mistakes and you have all of the information necessary here now to understand.

Oh wow, the old Mylot sounds interesting but it explains why I was confused when I first joined.

@rebelann Your profile says that you joined 8 years ago (on the 29 Jul 2011, to be precise), so you must have used the old myLot for a couple of years before it changed.

Actually I only signed in once if I remember correctly @owlwings I was becoming familiar with online writing sites like Gather.com and when it folded I jumped into Bubblews. I didn't even think of Mylot again until a few member at Bubs mentioned it and I tried to join

I guess your rating depends upon the discussions you started and quality of your posts(comments) in other's discussions,if they rate your comment positive or mark your comment as best answer then your reputation will rise while if you get ngative rating then your reputation lowers.

dansazz instead of asking other users who probably don't know either, read the links that have been given to you in the response above. There you will understand that it affects our earnings as well as brightening up tyhe pagez.

Read about it here: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx and about the discussion rating system here: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx Your MyLot Reputation is often liable to fluctuate quite a bit at first. It will usually settle down as your User Rating increases.

Ok thanks for the tips. I thought it was because I did something wrong or arguing with people on here, or something. I wasn't sure.

"It will usually settle down as your User Rating increases" dansazz it is up to you where it settles and whether you have a higher or lower star because what you contribute here is rated by other users.

When you post a comment do you notice the 3 options you are given? There is one to rate the user up and one to rate the user down and the 3rd is to report the user for a comment that breaks the terms of MyLot. We are the ones that give eachother a positive or negative rating. MyLot does say that there is a method that stops people from abusing this system and just giving a person a negative rating simply because they do not like them. You can find all this info in the FAQ's. I'd add links but I can't copy paste yet and typing the address is kind of annoying but you can get there easy enough. Hope this helps and makes sense to you :)

@ Lamb. I know for certain (and I still have all of the PMs) that if there is reason to suspect that abuse of the DRS is taking place, and it is proven to be the case, myLot will, and do, deal with it.

Really? Well that's certainly not good. Maybe that's why one of my discussions was deleted, it was a flaw or glitch I thought about MyLot, guess they don't like those sorts of questions or feedback either :(
