Much have been said about Ronaldo chances increased in collecting the Ballon O'dor from Messi. However, only if Portugal wins the Euro's but they were defeated by Spain. Messi cannot play Euro because he is an American. Should Euro be a yardstick for awarding Ballon O'dor in Euro years. What of amazing players who are not Europeans. Will Portugal elimination from Euro 2012 be a major factor of his chances of the award?

The fact that once again, the major trophy went to the team where Xavi and Iniesta are playing is the sign that they are the most important players in the current football. If it was after me, I would give Xavi the Golden Ball, because he is constantly the best player in the world and this for about 6 years now. But because I don't agree with individual awards in a team sport, and because I know that Xavi doesn't care neither, even Ballotelli can have it. In football, the only important thing is to win major trophies, and Xavi and Iniesta have 6 of them already. I am sure that they can live happily without individual trophies.

I think that there are no bigger personal achievements than being a part of a winning team. That is a sign that you are doing something right and you have helped a bigger community to be successful. And I don't think there is some comparison of what a player feels when winning a team trophy and what he feels when he gets the Golden Ball. The first one is always bigger, the second one makes a player maybe proud, but I don't think that he will get in an ecstatic state of mind. Personally, I am not so interested in this, but I think Iniesta will be the one who will get this title.

Yes Xavi has won honours both with club and country but however, Messi still out-smart him. In Euro 2012, he did not really have a great tournament. He played his best game in the final and determined the midfield for the two team. Iniesta was a class of his own in the tournament. They both will still trail Messi and Ronaldo in Ballon O dor award, because these two both has very blissful season 2011/2012. Every player so like team achievement as well as personal achievement

A good performance and result will definitely helped Ronaldo's cause for the Ballon O'dor. However, Ronaldo has a good performance in the tournament and his form for the year has been amazing. He will be in for a shout with maybe only Messi to vy with him.

True Ronaldo has an amazing year, then what we will say of Messi. Who has not only broken records seen as impossible but also created records. In champions league goals, he is second behind Raul, which he might catch this season. In the international engagement, he has proved his critics wrong. Messi still stands out.

I think Ronaldo probably had three of his best games for Portugal before they lost. So I do not think this should really affect his winning the Ballon'dor. But to be truthful, I want either Xavi or Iniesta win it rather than Ronaldo or Messi. Cheers! Ram

What you said is totally correct. If Portugal would have won the Euro cup and Ronaldo was declared man of the tournament, then i think he would have got the Ballon O'dor. But since Portugal is eliminated, now i think he doesn't have a chance against Messi. Messi is the highest goal scorer in this season with a record breaking 73 goals. He is simply the best player in the world right now. And not only that, he also played some brilliant football for Argentina in the friendlies and world cup qualifier. So I think that award should definitely go to Messi for the fourth time.

good there akash009, Messi has been outstanding in the summer with Ronaldo performing well in only two matches in the tournament. Ronaldo is still a strong contender but as you said Messi stand very clear at the top to lift it for the record fourth time. The new season would be played for some time before the next award, we will see how it goes between these two. What do you think about that Van Persie is what being in the list as his performance and impact in Euro 2012 was not pleasing?
