Pirates always say it to his captain. Just like sailors say to Captain Hook, or to BlackBeard, Or to Jack Sparrow (this one is my favorite pirate) But, do you know why it "Aye..Captain!" and not "Yes..Captain"? have a nice day in Mylot!

Aye simply means yes. Aye Aye means that an order has been heard, understood and the sailor is about to carry out the order. Though its spelled Aye now, I have read somewhere that it started out as "I, I" To mean "'I' understand and 'I' will comply" That may or may not be true though.

I don't know for sure,i never wondered about 'aye'. I think because captain is the all in all of the ship,he should be respected. I think 'Aye' sounds more respectful than plain yes, even though they mean just the same. But how it came to be?...i dunno, maybe from some native american language.

I can't find out why sailors say aye and not yes,i hadn't really thought about it before but now you've mentioned it im curious as to the answer and will try and find it out.I think i know the difference between aye sir and aye aye captain,i think aye captain just means yes and is the response to a question.Aye aye captain is the response to an order and means they have understood it and are going to carry it out.
