Differences in scone recipes: a health problem

I was just now checking for a recipe of english scones. I have had awesome ones for tea time but I don`t know the recipe. I discovered now at the web that english sites used a lot less fat (be it butter, shortening and/or cream) than the american recipe. Isn`t it time that we checked the recipes we make and start cutting down on fat? We can eat homemade cookies, nice bread, lovely scones with just a bit of butter or the like. Needless to say, that also goes for the optative eggs. I love eggs, but I could save that cholesterol for the time where I can see it in an omelette, scrambled eggs or even hard boiled ones

There are so many great substitutions that can be made with recipes to make something more healthy to eat. For example, many times when I am baking a cake, I will use apple sauce in the place of oil. This significantly cuts down the fat in the cake, but it also leaves the cake being just as moist and delicious as it would have been if I had used oil in my recipe. In addition to that, I try to make any healthy substitutions that I can because of the fact that my family does have a history of heart disease.

I have discovered that I must use less butter in muffins when I make banana muffins. If I use the same amount, they are too moist for my taste. As for other substitutions, there are some sauces where you can use plain yogurt instead of mayo. I make an awesome avocado mousse with yogurt. The original recipe had loads of mayo.

I never learned how to cook. I never wanted to. but baking is something I like to do. I'm not pastry chef or I would be a good candidate for your restaurant.

I discovered tat in different recipes. I don`t know why one would be better than the other, as taste goes. I`d have to check. If it`s too dry, it needs more fat. But in my knowledge, some foods are better with more fat and some aren`t.

I personally check every recipe of the same thing from many different sources. I compare the oil amount , the eggs amount , and then , I choose the recipe with the least oil and eggs and all other unhealthy things. I make a small experiment using even less of the unhealthy things and if it comes out tasty enough , I compromise with it and make more. It is just food , if the experiment fails , I can still stick to the recipe with the least fats and eggs.

I don`t bake much usually, because I stopped baking sweet things when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. But now that I`m checking recipes to learn forgotten things, I have discovered that. I will certainly use the more healthy recipes.
