Hi mylotters, I recently watched a show on national geographic. Apparently, there are a lot of people that eat sharks as a delicacy. They eat the fin of the shark. In our country, this is also popular because of chinese restaurants. When I watched national geographic, there were a lot of sharks that were just killed for their fins. Even the great white shark was killed. It was really a sad sight. I am never eating sharks fin again :) So guys, what is your take on this matter?

The sharks fin is regarded as a luxury and delicious dish for Chinese. However, I didn't eat it since it is expensive. And I agree with you that we shouldn't damage the environment and break the balance in the ocean. The sharks are one creatures in the ocean and I don't want it to become extinct. And in fact we can have another kind of rice noodles to replace the sharks fin when we cook this dish. It tastes similar anyway. I love China

I'm not sure if I've had eaten real sharks fin. Those are quite expensive from where I'm from. We do have a lot of so-called sharks fin dishes served even in fast food outlets or food carts, but I've been told they don't really contain fins of sharks. I never knew the great white shark is also being killed for this delicacy. All along I thought they used sharks that are abundant. Thanks for this very valuable information.

I ate shark fin once in a restaurant. I did not thought I was doing something bad : I have seen often small sharks captured accidentally in fishing nets when I was living near the ocean, and a shark in a net is considered as a disaster by fishermen. I can hardly think that they are fished deliberately. Honestly, it is far to be a delicacy : for what I remember, it is tasteless, and I can live without eating sharks...

My tattoo is a pained shark with black paint. It is not because I am trying to help sharks killing, but it was suggested to me as original picture from the guy who made my tattoo. All Facebook pages show pictures of how killing sharks and whales is a sport in some countries. I love pets and all living creatures. So I would never support killing free animals like that just for us to satisfy our luxury tastes.

hey there when i was in China, i got to eat shark's fin dumplings. it tasted good just like the other dumplings. i don't really find something spectacular about it. and yeah i hope they stop killing sharks and creatures like that and also dolphins and whales because their number are getting small and sooner or later their will be nothing left anymore for our grandchildren to see

That is terrible that people would kill an animal just to eat a very small part of them. I am a vegetarian so I dont eat meat at all. I wish others didnt eat meat either but I cant tell them what to do. I only wish that people if they are going to kill animals would use up as much of them as possible so it wouldnt be such a waste.

Shark fins? I've never heard of people eating shark fins. This is so new to me and I hope those shark killers would stop what they're doing. But it's probably so delicious. I think they should just set a limit to shark killing.

That is a sad story.I love shark's fin as a dumpling. If it cost waste of lives for our sharks, then, we should not patronize those who offer them in their menu..Thanks for your info

Honestly, I've only eaten shark one time in my life and if I would have known what I was being fed, I wouldn't have even eaten it then. However, we were not told what we were eating until after we had gotten done eating our dinner. This was when I travelled to Italy and France for World Youth Day when I was seventeen years old. I will admit that it did taste good, but it isn't something that I would be willing to eat by choice. In addition to that, I think that if a creature is going to be used for food, the majority of the creature should be eaten.

Wether or not the fish is killed for their fin isn't even a worry for me as I wouldn't touch it anyways, I am not familiar with it. Never eat that kind of thing in the good ole USA. It seems more of a Asian type of dish. But I understand how you feel, it is bad for something like this to happen. I heard that the fisherman just take the fin off and throw the shark back in the water, as much as I dislike sharks I think it's still cruelty. I would feel the same if they barbaricly killed any other living creature like this for one item on their body.

I eat shark's fin and it is good. For the people who say that eating shark's fin should be stopped, then shouldn't we stop eating pork, beef, fish, and any other animal food? It is technically, killing animals as well. However, killing endangered sharks should be stopped. They should instead try to find a way to create a "shark pond", something similar to a fish pond so that there will be a renewable source of shark's fin.
