Am I the only crazy that roots for Mexico And Canada when I can? I mean if us Americans are not entered or we are so far behind we can't medal, if I see Mexico Or Canada , I root for them. I see them as my cousins. How about you? Are you rooting for countries other than your home country?and if so why?

I am from England and so support Great Britain at the Olympics. I may support an Irish athlete but would not support someone just because they are European.

I understand. You and the Continent are not That close! Over here is it different. We fought Mexico when they were under Spain's rule and Canada 200 years ago when you Brits Really owned the place. And many of us Yanks don't know either one of these facts! For me we are all cousins so it is sooo easy. By the by I'm rooting for England when I can. Meaning if I see there are no Yanks But there is an English athlete , I root for them! I am prying. Are you in London? If so how is it getting around?

For me if it is not India, then I go for any athlete who appeals to me generally anyone not Chinese or American. :) I loved to support Bolt and other Jamaican runners. I loved to support the African long distance runners Dibaba and all. The only American I supported was Phelps due to the enormous magnitude of his feat. And I also support Andy Murray against my usual favorite Federer as that just seemed right to me. :) Cheers! Ram

Well i always cheer for my home country India. But if my favorite player of a different country plays, i cheer for him/her madly. Just like i cheer for Federer who belongs to Switzerland or Serena Williams who is from USA. It is fun to see them playing and cheering for them. It feels like getting connecting with them even though we are at home.

I am from the USA, and I cheer for them the most, certainly. It's an interesting take that you would root for the others countries on the continent (this is way easier being in North America I imagine; imagine keeping track of all the African or European countries to cheer for). However, I agree with subhojit in that there are certain exceptions when it comes to rooting for people in the Olympics. A few people than I can think of off the top of my head are Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in tennis (probably stems from the fact that I know no American is going to have a realistic shot at the medals anyway), and Usain Bolt in the various track and field events (if he could repeat in the 100m he'd be the first since Carl Lewis I believe).
