My grandmother was saying that the taste of the food comes from the spices we use while cooking. So my family starting my grandmother, mom and I also we use a lot of spices. And I love really much salty food so I can't imagine food without spices or salt.

I've always tried hard to avoid articial spices like broth cubes or powdered seasonings since they carry much MSG (monosodium glutamate) in them. My husband always reminds me that it's not good for our health, and for our kids also. So I try my best to just stick to the natural salt, pepper, soy sauce/ fish sauce, etc. But it's really difficult to make the kids eat bland viands cooked without spices. Spices add taste and smell to the food, especially artificial spices.:( I can cook veggies even without meat and it will still taste good with the use of the new spices available in grocery stores. And I have observed too, that the kids eat more when the food is cooked with spices rather than just salt or none at all. I myself, would ask for and use additional seasonings on personal saucer while eating when I taste that the served food lacks taste. :(

A lot of food would be very bland with out salt or spices. My granddaughters and daughter don't like to put salt in the water for cooking pasta or vegetables. They don't put much seasoning on their vegetables either. They also don't put salt in their mashed potatoes and they are so bland. I have one granddaughter that when she does us seasoning she goes way overboard with too much. She doesn't it it so she doesn't realize she is putting too much on the food she is cooking. I love my herbs and spices just not too much.

i cannot taste most foods due to a nose condition and so i don't think i would eat unless i had salt and pepper and other spices on my foods.

Depends on what you call spice. Start out with onions and garlic and the food will be yummy. Orange squash as a soup base imparts a ton of flavor. Of course coffee is perfect without any additives.

I believe they're called fruits.. but whatever the case, it would be awful without them.. there would be little to no combinations In cooking :/

Well without spice, food can be imagined but without a pinch of salt food cannot be thought of. Salt is once such ingredient which if not added strips off the taste from the food. In fact spices also add lot of taste to the food. What say?
