To circumcise or not to circumcise?

Doctors and religion both say to circumcise. However, my partner just told me that it is becoming more popular to not circumcise. Is he right? Do you have your son circumcised? And if it is becoming more popular to not, why?

Myth! Fallacy! Cleanliness is a matter of daily hygeine. Would you have all of your teeth pulled so you don't have to brush them?

I just read somewhere that uncircumcised men have less risk of getting aids than men with a circumcision. When I had my babies, you were encouraged to get the boys circumcised. To what purpose does it really serve?

My son is circumcised. My friends boys are too. To me it has nothing to do with religin or my doctor. It has to do with having to take more time to clean. My sone was not done properly so he still has excess skin that he has to care for.

One of my sons is like that also. I felt horrible trying to clean it properly as if I was doing something wrong when he was a baby. Then we had to teach him to make sure to cleaned better because after he was done potty training, he had gotten an infection. I about cried for him when seeing it! But now he has learned how to care for himself...for the most part. LOL Thanks for sharing!

don't know about down south but up here in the north they only stopped because it cost money to do. so now you pay for it or won't be done. well i for one would get it done foe the hygenic reasons its easier to keep the area clean. believe me when i say if a guy has to get it done later in life it is very painful no matter what they give you for it plus you won't be standing too straight for couple weeks. no pun intended...

Recent studies have shown that noncircumcised men can be more likely to catch and to transmit HIV and other diseases. So I think it's a good thing to do for that reason alone.

Sorry, Idlewild...I wish I would have seen your response before posting above. I would have posted it under your response to help support you. And thank you! I am glad I am not the only one that has recently seen that news also. This was one of those other reasons that sparked my conversation with my partner. :)

I don't have a son but I know that my little nephew was not cirumcsized. I think the rate seems to be more 50/50 now and there are health risks involved in both circumsized and non circumsized. My nephew had a bladder infection once and doctors thought that it could have been related to him not being circumsized, but this hasn't happened for quite awhile now and he has had no other health issues since then.

circumcision in our community is actually necessary and we are obliged to go through with it during our childhood.

I am going to respond from a poor position: we had a daughter. But, when my wife was pregnant, our doctor asked us about circumcision if it was a boy. He recommended against it and we didn't see any reason for it, so we decided not to. Which, as it turned out, was purely academic.

I wish the doctors would not have pushed to have my boys circumcised. It was torture to see him so upset and hurt. I cried right along with him! Each time he pee'd he would cry. I felt so horrible! But when I had my sons, the doctors suggested it for health reasons. Now, it seems as if they are moving the other direction according to some of these posts.

YES YES YES!!!! I had my son circumcised. I made my husband go in with him because I was too scared. My doctor did not do it, she sent us to a different doctor, and told us it was not necessary to circumcise him, she did not do it to her son. And I said "Well my son is going to get circumcised" I will tell you one thing also...I would not be with a man that was not cut, but that is my opinion.

Thoughtprocess, I do believe that the chapter of Exodus covers the influence on circumcision. Also, the link you provided shows how circumcision has been done throughout history many different reasons. Including the showing of mascilinity or acting as the loss of a hymen. This discussion was created to read each others thoughts and opinions. Not to attack each other. Please refrain from making this a situation that will lead to another feeling as if they must defend their opinion or beliefs. Thank you and happy new year. :)

Thoughtprocess, I was really angry when I read your comment and thought of some rude thing's to say to you. But I would not lower myself to your standard's. All I have to say is, you need to process your thought's more carefully and understand that I and my husband choose all the medical procedure's done to my children. You opinion, thoughtprocess or any other type of idea, mean's nothing to me. I have turned over a new leaf and will keep you and your rudeness in my prayer's Good luck to you.

This was a bit of an agonizing decision for my husband and I. We knew we were having a boy and for a few months before his birth we would discuss circumcision for hours on end. My husband did not want our son to be circumcised and I did. Looking at circumcision from the aspect of our religion (Christianity) we looked at Romans 2:25-28 which pretty much abolishes circumcision as a religious practice for Christians. So that was not what our decision was based on. Next we talked to our doctor who sited cases of uncircumcised men who were at a higher risk of penial cancer, men who had to be circumcised at a later age, and cleanliness. Another concern for me was if he would be made fun of by other boys if he was not circumcised. This may seem shallow, but it was a concern of mine. We had also heard that if a dad is circumcised that his son should be also and vice versa to prevent confusion. Based on many of these things we ultimately decided to get our son circumcised. We felt it was the best decision for him.

My sons are circumcised though their father isn't. My current husband is as are his sons. He did it for religious reasons and I had my sons circumcised for health reasons, mainly. My father had just always told me it was "cleaner" and better so when I had sons, it was a given. It has been popular to not circumcise for many years now, mainly because a lot of people see the procedure as not necessary. It's a very personal decision each parent has to make for their child.

We did have our son circumcised. Mostly it was for hygienic reasons, there was nothing religious about it. Part of it was in thoughts of how he would feel in the future about it. As much as it hurt him when we had it done, at least it's something he won't remember. If we had decided not to, and he wanted to later in life that would have caused him a great deal of pain. Better to be without in this case, than with.

I have heard that it is becoming more popular to circumcise too. I think it's because we are now more hygne efficent (for lack of better words) and more aware of how to keep "it" clean. I personally wouldn't want to circumcise my son (if I ever had one) because I hate to think of the pain they must be in for that short amount of time. And if/when they got older and wanted to then that would purly be their choice. However my hubby doesn't agree with me 'cause he is. So I would respect his male opinon on it and circumcise our son.

I don't have a son but if I did I would get him circumcised. The reason? Cleanliness more then anything. Overall it is far easier for the boy especially when he's young to take care of it himself when he is cicumcised then when he isn't. Now I know my neighbor who has two boys wishes she'd gotten her first son cicumcised. She was a single mother for many years and trying to teach him to take care of it wasn't easy, lets face it a boy reaches an age where he doesn't want his mother checking him over to make sure he cleaned up. She recently had another boy and she had him circumcised, didn't hesitate on it.

I am going to circumcise my kids because I think it is much more expected these days. Most kids will probably be circumsized and I want my kid to beel able to feel "normal" according to his peers.

My son did not need to be circumcised. Even though it might be popular as long as he does not need it due to medical reasons I dont see why he should be circumcised.

I think for ladies, it is becoming more popular. But for male, I is not hygenic not to be circumcised. I gues the religion and the doctors know why they argue for male circumscision.
