Is Back to School Time Really the Best Time of the Year?

Kids returned to school today. Even though I do not have school aged children anymore, I remember how stressful it was to get them settled back into a new school year. The stress was monumental but I was elated at the same time because for a few hours five days a week, I got to take a break from my kids. I loved them then and still love them now but looked forward to school starting every year. It was the most wonderful time of year for me. Some parents seem to feel anxiety during this time, how about you? What say you, is back to school a good time for you or not?

I can remember many times growing up always being excited because back to school time meant new clothes and usually tnew shoes as well. The main thing now is that it is getting so expensive I often wonder how parents can afford all the supplies. It is expensive but it does have the chance to give parents time freedom for a couple of hrs. Hopefully the kids are learning something as well.

A lot of schools now have uniforms so the excitement is not the same as we experience. The good thing is that there is a lot to choose from in colors and styles. Kids who wear uniforms do not seem to get teased about their clothes as much as we use to, that is a very GOOD thing. The schools depend upon charity to provide school supplies to all their students. Different groups hand out free school supplies just before school starts; teachers send home a general supply list that parents are responsible to purchase for the classroom supply closet. Certain retailers will open special educational accounts for teachers which give them discounts on school supplies. It is so expensive, you just can't imagine; this really adds to the stress of returning to school. The kids learn if they are interested and not so much if they are not. The school, the parents and the child must work together to ensure the child is educated to the best of everyone's ability. Parents are usually ready for the kids to get back to their studies by the end of summer break; then they can enjoy some much needed down time. Kids are more than happy to get away from their parents and get back to socializing with their friend. It is a win-win for both; all is right with the universe when kids go back to school.

My child is in college. It seems there is no difference in back to school or not.

I felt the same when I sent my daughters off to college; the first day of school is the same at every level. I am happy those days are behind me.

Actually, think my daughter liked back to school more than me, as she would see her friends all in the same place. We didn't live near her friends. I'll admit it was nice to have a few hours of time to work on paper work and I had a part time job while she was in school. It meant more money for expenses and no child care expense. She is now an adult and is in college studying to be a teacher.

What a wonderful profession, now your daughter can contribute to the happiness of many parents and children alike when it comes to participating in the best time of the year. We need the time apart, adults and kids. The time that kids spend in school makes the time afterwards spent at home more special. Back to school time is the very best time of the year.
