I've recently been diagnosed with anxiety disorder and let me tell you.. it is really killing me. I've been having this feeling of my impending doom coming near and it really drives me crazy. Some of my other symptoms are shortness of breath, palpitations, and jittery legs. Any of you mylotters experience the same?

My dad developed anxiety attacks after having 2 back surgeries. He was afraid about his future and was worried about his wife (my mom). He describes it as a something that scares you when you least expect it. Imagine yourself walking in the darkness and suddenly something scares you , making you jump and makes your heart jumping too. My dad says it is the same feeling but a lot longer ! I think it comes from having worries so you need to have more peaceful life. You say it yourself that the anxiety gets off when you are happy. You need something to make you sure the future will also be ok.

It's a lot longer, stronger, and crazier if you ask me. Stress is already a part of life so I guess getting help from my cousin psychiatrist helps a lot. Thanks for the advice.

Actually she's my cousin so she knows a lot of things about me and what my current situation is. Our sessions are informal and mostly over the phone. I guess we're getting some good results as I am now able to control my panic attacks.

Hmmm...Does the psychiatrist help you with understanding where the anxiety attacks come from ? Can he give you some advice about how to prevent them ? I think getting pills won't solve the problem. You need to go through a therapy.

Yes, been there and done that! I went to the doctor one time, thought I was having a heart attack and that is when I was diagnosed with panic attacks and anxiety. She put me on zoloft and it helped immensely. Stayed on it for awhile, went off it after six months and the symptoms returned a year later. Over a few years I have been on and off it. I do not like taking it as it makes me tired and sometimes gives me the "who cares about anything feeling". what also helps for me - is getting out in the sunshine. I notice if it is nice out I feel better. But for your symptoms I would definitely get on meds to make some progress. Have you been to the doctor, if not then go- they really can help you. Good luck!

Luckily, my cousin is a psychiatrist so she gave me prescriptions for rivotril and another which I take every after breakfast. My symptoms also go away whenever I'm happy but there are times when I wake up feeling awful because of it.

I think you should seek professional help. It may worsen in the future if it won't be treated properly. Blessings to you as well and stay safe.

Hi xtedaxcvg I began attendig psych meetings. I talked with my doctor about this. I get relaxed when I read. I`ve been attending the psych office, but sometimes work and customers take my time. I have to program some new visits for next year. Thanks you for your advice

i know the feeling as well. my suggestion for you is to spare sometime with people close to you and share what is inside you, what is bothering you etc. having a spiritual life will also enlighten your feeling of anxiety. read the verse Jeremiah 6:16.

Yikes...it brings back memories. Do you have any appetite at all? When I went through it, I could not eat. It was so horrible because you just keep convincing yourself that something horrible is going to happen or you caused something horrible, etc. It is hell and I feel for you. The last time I had it bad I just got out of the hospital after surgery and they had put me on antidepressants because supposedly I was going to have moods swings. Antidepressants can take 4-6 weeks to take effect (or at least that one did back then). I have since discovered Xanax and although it's not for everyday use when you're totally flipping out like that, it works great and fast!

Thank you so much for the advice. I'm so relieved to have found people on the net that have the same predicament as I do. At least we could share information and remedies on our situation. Thanks again!
