Brand or quality?

What is your consideration to buy things? Is it a brand or a quality? Most of my friends prefer brand because they proud to bring or wear branded things. They believe, everybody knows that branded things are expensive, so that branded things will upgrade their self-esteem. While for me, it's not necessary the brand all the time as a reason to buy. Sometimes, I buy a thing for it's quality, even it's not a branded thing. What about you?

I'll prefer something that follows the middle path. But sometimes its hard to. For instance we have several biscuit companies, but we end up buying the one with greatest quality. It is also interesting to observe that most branded companies offer quality products as well. As you've mentioned about your friends. Sometimes I'm inclined more on buying branded clothes. Not only because it makes me feel good, but also gives me the sensation that I've purchased a quality product. For instance, Levi's jeans is a brand as well as a quality product manufacturer. So it serves both purposes. But yes, Giffen goods phenomenon remains in the market. For e.g. when people get thirsty and are looking for an alternative to water, they'll buy a Coke and not a carton of milk. Whereas, milk is not only cheaper but also more healthy and nutritional. But it lacks pride. Hope all these makes sense. Good luck!

I'm sure no big company does that. The wannabee big companies practice that. A big organization has the benefit of economy of production, will trade on equity, do cost control and finally apply cost reduction policies (deteriorating the quality is not part of cost reduction policies) to reduce price and not simply compromise with quality to achieve it. Wouldn't it be so simple, if reducing price meant to reduce quality? Then why keep cost experts and production managers? Haha. These experts ensure reduction of price without decreasing the quality by various standards and budgeting process. Anyways, the price of branded products are always inflated, than necessary. They can simply cut their excess profit, when times are hard. Good day!

quality would be my basis for buying, branded or not. but anyways, you could count on branded things as well. these companies protect their brands so they have to check the quality of their products. they have a whole linof QAs and QCs to make the product worth the price.

but then again, there are these branded companies which were not what they once was.some of them just carry the name, but the quality already slipped long ago. though because of halo effect, we tend to think they are still as they were.

A good quality brand is what I look for! SOMETIMES, but not always, the more expensive brand just has a better quality to it. (Not all the time, like I said, however). I definitely will go for quality, although it really does depend on the price. Happy shopping!

Hi, Brand denotes quality, that's what I have observed. There's Levi's, Sony, Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, Sharp... the list is endless. Whenever I shop for things to use, I always look out for branded items, that is, if my budget allows it. Which brings us to the next consideration: the price we pay for branded, quality items. The prohibitive cost often forces us to opt for non-branded items, at the sacrifice of quality, course. Nowadays, it is possible to get high quality, non-branded items at minimal cost. I don't have to go far than the desktop PC I have now. Its specifications approaches that of a fully loaded USD400.00 HP but I got it at no extra cost. The parts are personally assembled by yours truly out of discarded, surplus or recycled parts: mainboard, HDD, RAM, CPU, PSU, VCard, the works. Eventually, the time came to assemble it into a fully working unit, and it worked first time. Now, that's quality without the brand at lesser price.

Hi, Some people proud to bring or wear branded things. The quality of branded things is always good. But it doesn't mean that the other non branded things are not good. I many times buy the things which are not brabded. they are good in quality and their prices are low.

agree with you, the brand is for others not for yourself. choose a thing ,the most important is comfortable. so quality is the first factor to considered!

"everybody knows that branded things are expensive"- i disagree on this point. Rather i think, branded products are much committed to maintain "Quality". Hereby, it offers confidence where out of brand products do not. Personally, if i'm not an expert of anything to buy, i rely on Brands of it.
