repairing of my home

I had purchased a nice flat twelve years ago and i am staying in it since then. It is a resell flat having self attached locks to two doors. For last twelve years both the locks were functioning very very well. But for last few days they are giving trouble to open. At a time both the locks have become useless and it is finding very difficult to open the door from inside as well as outside. Some days i have managed by over oiling it but now it is a time to replace it by new one. My house is old for about 12 years, so repairing of many things is inevitable. The only way out is to renovate it fully. Do you have any such experience with your home.

I live in an older house. It's nice but it was built in the 1940's and now things are starting to go wrong. We had a problem with the electric wiring. It wasn't made to handle all the things we have today - air conditioner, computer, microwave, TVs, etc. It would cost a lot of money to rewire so we do the best we can. The furnace gives us trouble sometimes too, although thankfully, it's not as old as the house. We've replaced locks, too. Old houses are nice but they can be a lot of trouble.

I would really advise you to have your wires checked. Much better if you can rewire your whole house. Faulty electrical wiring is very hazardous and could result in a fire. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, just want you and your family safe. Have an electrician quote you on how much its gonna cost you. If its not too pricey then go for it, you can actually save more cash by rewiring the whole house since faulty electrical wiring can damage not just your home but also a lot of electronics which are very sensitive nowadays.

Hi, Old houses are very nice and spacious. But they require maintenance frequently. if your wiring is faulty and old you should replace it with new wiring. Because faulty electricle fitting would be very dangerous. you shouldn't ignore it. My grandfather's house is also very old like you. He has done new electrical fitting for the whole house. thank you for the response.

slico & roshigo - thank you for the comments and your concern about a fire. The wiring isn't faulty, there just aren't enough outlets. We need to have more electrical outlets and that would mean adding more wiring separate from what we already have. The electrical output would be distributed more evenly. We stopped using the TV because we never watch it so that's one less drain on it. I asked a friend who knows about electrical stuff and he told me it's very expensive. We can't afford it since I lost my job. My friend can't do it, he is not a licensed electrician. But there's no danger of a fire. Roshigo, your grandfather is lucky to be able to have new wiring. I am thinking of moving to an apartment some time in the future. It's getting too expensive to live in a house.

Hi ros, Everyone's house will be old enough not to use them anymore. I have built a new house collecting of which equipment was a challenge to me. My wife helped me a lot. I dint know she had any money she kept hidden. I said to her that I'm going to borrow money on interest. She instantly asked what more else I need to bear the cost. I told her and she instanly gave me. As house is our heaven. Why dont we pay much priority to repairing them? TC

Hi, Kashi, You are lucky that your wife helped you in purchasing you a new house which is a heaven for you. As your house is new you don't require repairing but you require things to decorate your house. Decorating a new house is a happiest experience. Thank you for the response.

As the topic says repair.Oh!it is so tiresome with so much work to do as if the day is very fast because you are so busy with all your hammer, pliers, wrench, saw, screw drivers, nails with your repairing works. When you start repairing it,your other house parts would be needing repairs, too because the house has its own mind that the owner has time to fix it.

hi roshigo, thanks for the response, my brother house old become old and some damages cause to the walls and bathroom, first he wish to demolish the house and construct new house in the same place, but now a days if we wish to construct two bedroom house the estimate is more than two million rupees, but my brother check up the walls and base strength with Engineers in a Cement company, they have verified and certified, there is no worry about the walls and base, so the house can be furnished with some minor repairs, have a nice day.

We bought our house four and a half years ago and we knew when we bought our house that we were going to have to do a lot of repairs to the house. Before we were even able to move into the house we had to gut and remodel the bathroom because it was in such poor shape. In addition to that, there have been several other remodeling projects that we've done. Hopefully next year we will be able to start with some of the other things that we would like to have done to the house.

house under renovation - House under renovation
Wow, yes, we have a family house which was built several decases ago and my brother and I will be spending a lot on its renovation this year. There is really a sentimental value of this property, we grow up here and spend almost all of time. I'm looking forward that my grandchildren will have the chance to see our family home even chance to live there. Thanks

Hi, From the photo your house seems big. Big houses require more repairing and high cost for renovation. Everyone has sentimental value for the ancestor's property. Many happy memories are attached to it. Thank you for the response.
