The noise outside my window doesn't let me rest!

We have quiet hours between 15:00 and 17:30 at noon here. I am not sure if this happens in other countries as well! In my previous appartment, a neighbor that we had was calling the police if someone was noisy during those hours and they were giving a warning. You can even get arrested for this!

I live in the state of Virginia in the United States and here noise can began at 8:00 am or 9:00 am in some places.Unreasonable noise must cease by 10:00 pm Sunday thru Thursday,except for holidays and 12:00 am on Fridays,Saturday's and holidays.There are rules for residential neighborhoods,not in business districts where there are bars,restaurants and theatre's that close around 1:00 am or 2:00 am. The reason some places are 8:00 am and 9:00 am is that people have to leave for work earlier,ie: residential places near stores,offices and main roads.Plus during the school year some school buses pick up the children around 6:15 am. Unreasonable noise is like,music,parties,lawn work,construction,moving in or out of a home in a residential area,yelling,receiving deliveries,etc.

wow, your quiet hours are so complicated! :) We have the same for the whole country, it's 15:00-17:00 p.m. and 23:00 to 07:00 am. The noon hours are because people rest after work, but I'm not sure if there are specific things that you can't do. I guess that every kind of noise that might disturb the neighbors is not allowed! For example having the tv volume high at night might be a reason for neighbors to call the police. Personally, I prefer to have good relationships with my neighbors and I don't complain, because I guess that they will be tolerant if I decide to have a party one day and have the music until late! Today the lawn machine was really disturbing and I didn't manage to sleep at all. However, I prefer not to discuss it with them because I they are my landlords and I wouldn't like to have problems in the future.

I am used to the sounds that I am familiar with, for example my parents talking or my neighbor's chickens! :) But I find irritating the sounds that I don't know, like machines working etc. Music would help I guess, but I didn't try it! Thanks for your comment!

I coma back home at 16:00 and I feel so tired so I want to rest for an hour. During the summer that it's too hot, I feel sleepy at noon! We have quiet hours set by law over here. I didn't complain at the end but I wasn't able to sleep at all! I decided to go online instead of trying to sleep without any luck! :P I have ear plugs but I don't like them so much.
