Is it just me does it seem that movies nowadays have become less meaningful and just not as good as the past. Everything is either a sad remakeof old movies, downright stupid original or another useless sequel (spiderman 4,5,6 anyone?)

Oh, don't get me started on this topic. I feel just the same as you, only for some years now. Movies have become downright crap. I don't watch movies anymore, except for a few very carefully chosen ones.

I really disagree with you, because of the fact that just about everyone would, basicly, agree with you. But the reason isn't that the movies are getting worse, it's more that we're more used to movies. Once you've seen something like a great action flick, or sci-fi, or comedy, or drama, or romance, or anything, then every other movie you see after that, will have it as competition. The more movies you see, the more you feel like you've seen it all, and the movies just aren't as good anymore. And, the big reason that remakes and sequels are so big now, is because they're the ones that make the most money. Out of the top 30 highest-grossing movies of all time, only 4 of them were originals, those being Avatar, Titanic, the Lion King and Jurassic park. After people see the first movie and they liked it, they want to see the next one, or if they liked a movie from years ago, or know the storyline, they feel safer seeing it again, with a twist. So, if you want to stop having so many remakes and sequels, then stop seeing them.

I also think that most of the movies actually don't reach the quality of oldern movies. Nowadays, films only offer action (sometimes we miss even that), it seems like the movies only are made as an entertainment for a short time to stop people thinking. I don't want to tell that action is not good, but many films have to much fantasy, they are simply unrealistic, without any sense (for me). So, I am wondering where have gone to those movies like "Gone with the wind" and the others we saw when we were children (or not born yet)?

If you stick with the big Hollywood films then yes they are all that way. I like to see a mix between the big budget things and that small independent or foreign films. One of my favorite movies of the year so far was Moonrise Kingdom from Wes Anderson (but not everyone likes his stuff to begin with). Sometimes it is a good idea to look on the independent section of imdb and look for the things that will be in limited release and wait for them when they hit dvd (if you are not in a place that gets a lot of limited releases). If not that then spend time watching documentaries because even though some people spend time on similar subjects they all breath different life into the themes. Also I have seen a few documentaries that are so hilarious that you wonder if it was actually scripted.

You are not alone in thinking about that my friend. There are a few chosen ones that you can call "good movies", but never really near than those from the past. Try watching indie films. Some indie films are good.

Maybe one reason for this is budget. Movie producers aren't making enough like the way they used to coz of pirated movies being sold everywhere.

Yes, movies nowadays have not been as unique or quite as memorable as the ones in the past. Today, I think there are either too many romance comedy movies that have poorly written plots or movies that just do not make sense. I have also noticed a lot of released animated movies that do not have such great plots either. While there are some movies I thought were truly unique and memorable, most of the movies that are released in the theaters are so deplorable; sometimes, I do not even need to read reviews before watching the movies because the preview trailers can be a good indicator of the plot. But I still try to always read reviews to give all new movie releases a benefit of the doubt.
