Based on my research, brown rice is a good replacement for white rice.

My mother is diabetic. Because of this, the doctor advised her to limit her consumption of white rice every meal from 3 or more cups to 1 cup. Because my mother does not want to get her condition worse, (she's not yet taking insulin), she is very cooperative. The problem is she always feels so weak. She's very much sure that it's because of lack of rice. Based on my research, brown rice is a good replacement for white rice. What do you think?

Get your mother to switch to brown rice. It will fill her up more and contains fiber, etc. If it is common for her to eat rice of course she will get very hungry because the rice was the carb she ate. That one cup of brown rice will probably feel like two cups of white rice for her.

It has a nuttier flavor. For me, white rice tastes so plain that you do need the sauces on it to give it flavor.

brown rice tastes more organic, and has a stronger flavor. the disadvantage of this is that some meals don't taste good with it, unlike that with white rice. i hope your mother likes it, though.

according to experts, brown rice really is much healthier than the white one. though i am not sure how they came up with that conclusion. maybe you could also share the process of your research? i've been eating brown rice for some time several months back. and what i noticed is that you get to feel full in lesser amount of brown rice than in white. oh. and i also noticed that there are less choice of viands that go with brown than in white.

I think long time ago people used brown rice more than white rice.

maybe because that was the only variety of rice that they had in their place. in other places for sure, white rice is the main type. while in others, like in mountainous communities, red rice is the variety they have. i don't think it's about technology. but rather in an area's topography.

We have been eating brown rice for about a month already. my mom and i have started to buy brown rice when i tried in a restaurant how good this brown rice was, and it has a lot of health benefits, having less sugar, less calories and better fiber contents. It helps clean your stomach, your digestion is really good. This is what we have actually noticed from our end. I sure hope that it is sure going to be the best option... actually it is far more expensive than white rice.

It is true that the brown rice is better than the white one. It has more nutrition. But it may not taste as well as the white rice. Besides, it is also much more expensive and therefore the brown rice is not as popular as the white rice yet. I am not sure whether the brown rice is good for the diabetic people or not, but I know that the pumpkin is a good food for them. I love China

yes brown rice is a good replacement to brown rice as it is very rich in fiber. It is also said to be rich in vitamins and other food nutrients that help improve the body's immune system thus helps control some illnesses too.

In my country we only eat rice sometimes, becouse research have showed us that too much rice isn't good, nor healthy. Our food is more full of vitamins than rice is. You can look at asians, they are small becouse of the lack of vitamins and materials. Here in my country you can ber as tall as 2 meters tall. I don't think many Asian people is that tall. I'm sory if you find this offensive, I am just telling a fact here, and I like Asians :)

It's not offensive. We're really petite. But with regard to lack of vitamins and minerals, I strongly disagree! It's because of genetics, not because of lack of vitamins and minerals.

Personally from my point of view as a diabetic I have found brown rice for me spiked me even worse, so each diabetic is not always the same. I know for me rice used to be a killer, but I have found how much I can eat without affecting me too much, and then going from there. Since I eat a lot of it from time to time, I now find it being less than when I eat noodle dishes for blood sugar spikes.

There is some research into how brown rice actually helps with the control of diabetes, there are a few articles out there http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/15/eating-brown-rice-to-cut-diabetes-risk/ and http://health.usnews.com/health-news/diet-fitness/diabetes/articles/2010/06/14/brown-rice-bests-white-for-diabetes-prevention both refer to medical journals and studies, though the studies were done in the US the results should apply to other countries. So the replacing of white rice with brown rice should be possible. But like with any disease, each person is different and what works for one person, may not work for someone else, so the best is for your mother to try it out first and if she feels better to ask the doctor when she goes to her next consult if there are any limitations and any other suggestions of alternatives she may have. Just because someone is diabetic or pre diabetic does not mean she/he has to give up everything they enjoy, just that the diet has to be adapted a little.

Brown or red rice has the hull on. It's a whole grain. It has more fiber and is healthier for most people. The fiber will aid in digestion. It will help clean out the insides. Better elimination. It will produce less of a sugar spike compared to white rice. You will feel fuller longer with it. Whole grains are much better for us.

That seems to be true... Some sushi places here used brown rice for their sushi rolls and nagiris... Well, my mom prefers to eat rice that have been left over from previous night. She seems to think that their sugar content are less compared to freshly made white rice. Do you think that is true?

Basmati rice is grown in India. I think you should be able to get it. There are different types of Basmati rice. I don't know much about the differences. The kind I buy is always the same. It has a very good flavor. Not a strong flavor, but very good. Here is a link www.wisegeek.com/what-is-basmati-rice.htm I believe you could order it off the internet as well.

I think it is good to take brown rice for diabetes patient. I also heard that it is good to take brown rice from different people.

Generally, brown rice is healthier than white rice. The general rule of thumb is that foods that have gone through less processing is healthier. But I might be wrong in my opinion. White rice has gone through more processing, which is why the rice is white. Brown rice is closer to the natural color of rice when it is harvest from rice paddies. According to my mother, brown rice has more fiber than white rice and has a bit more nutrients than white rice.

Yes. Not really. Based on what I saw in my uncle's plantation, there are rice which are really pure white. Yes. That's what I always hear. Brown rice has more fiber.

That is right, brown rice is healthier than the conventional rice that we serve. It is said to have less carbohydrates and calories, yet giving your stomach the same satisfaction. It is often suggested to replace white rice with brown rice to people who are taking a strict diet. So if you want to lose weight, then you better switch to brown rice. I suggest that your Mom eat brown rice at night and still eat white rice during the day. You don't want to remove it quick, just replace white rice with brown gradually. Besides, our bodies rate of work gets slow at night so it would be better to have a brown rice with low calories and carbs.
