Cats Really Are A Stress Reliever

I was almost ready to get all worked up again after someone, whom will remain nameless again tried to blame something on me just a few minutes ago that wasn't my fault. She bought some frozen pizza for dinner for 4 people. Apparently it is only really enough for 2-3 adults but we somehow managed to have this amoungst four of us, for now. Anyhow, she said the pizza tasted "hot" as in peppery hot. I said I only added some thyme to it. She said well maybe it's the Thyme. I said no, Thyme not hot. She still proceeded to doubt me as always when I know I'm right (this is the second time today that I still recall). I told her that I put it in the pork chops I make for everyone too and she doesn't taste anything peppery hot does she. If she cooked more and with seasonings like me she would know this but as always she is just too ignorant to figure out anything. She finally shut up about it then, though. She was about to blame me for it like she tries to blame me for everything. (This has just been another trying week with her trying to do this stuff and boss me around as well, etc.) So I started to get my nerves up again and I could feel my heart race into getting angry. (I'm not gonna get any healthier this way, I know.) Then my sweet cat was let in and she immediately ran to me and I could feel my heart get back to normal speed again. She is such a sweetheart, I started to talk to her and pet her. I just fed her too. This is proof how a cat (or any pet perhaps) can actually make you feel better even in the worst cicumstances. I had been feeling stressed all week due to someone acting (same person) acting like a stuck up jerk, but it was just this time I noticed it bigtime for some reason about how the cat helped me get back down to my senses and ignore the jerk. This is why some people prefer animals over people sometimes.

Perhaps we need to trade cats because I was feeling pretty stress-free until I walked into my kids room to find my cat urinating on the mattress. But in fairness, I know some adults that do the same thing, so I still prefer that cat to most people I know. :)

My cat is not perfect like any person isn't either, but perhaps the cat was urinating cause it has some health problems? There could be many reasons, they just don't do this for no reason. It's hard to determine why sometimes as they cannot talk to us, so if she does it again I would suggest not to get angry but to perhaps let the vet know and schedule an appt. There might be something wrong with her, they do get sick like people and need health care. I'm sure there has been times when you have been less stressed too when petting her?

I definitely understand where you're coming from, I refer to it as "fuzz therapy." I recently went through a horrible break up and one of the few things that helped me calm down and find some measure of peace were my two cats. I even made the joke that I'm one bad relationship away from becoming the crazy cat lady. There's definitely something about the unconditional love that our pets show us that helps put things in perspective and has a definite calming effect on us. I believe there's actually medical research that shows petting a pet lowers your blood pressure and people with pets live longer, healthier lives.

Fuzz therapy, that's so cute. Never heard of that term, but I like it. It made me smile. Yes cats will even help during a break up and be there for you as a companion, even if they get sick and old eventually it will help to take care of them and focus your energy on something else other than the break up. I like that joke/phrase abut becming the crazy cat lady and I have heard that before, one of my fave phrases as well. Pets do show us unconditional love, I do know they can get mad at you though. Trust me they show it in their own ways, LOL. But it usually doesn't last for long, they do have emotions like us but as they can't talk people think they don't. It's just clearly a case of them not having a voice which is sad. Yes, medical research has shown that as well. My pets have always been a stress relieving time for me, one of them in particular was a huge handful who lived to be 20+ however but the positives outweighed the negatives for me in the long run.

Well, I don't know about relieving my stress, but my cats do keep things lively here. I have three (or, rather, three have me), and I can never be certain what they will do next. This morning, one woke me by kissing me on the top lip; the other two proceeded to knock kibble all over the floor while racing about like manicats.

Awe, that is so sweet to be kissing you on your lip, haha. The cats are lively that you have, if there is a bunch of them in particular. They knock kibble over cause they were having fun. They are like kids. One of my online friends has both a cat and dog that sort of fight play with each other and chase each other around the house. It gets to be even more fun with her Christmas tree up in the winter, eeek. LOL, but I guess she feels they are worth it.

This is so true. I had a cat named Tom and he instantly created a warmer atmosphere in our home. My brother who rarely laughs suddenly became playful with him and I could see him laugh more often. Our home was filled with light moments and funny stories about him. Amazing that a cat could do so much for a family. Sadly Tom was run over by a truck last April and I became depressed. I wept for days because he was one of my most favorite pets ever. We have another cat right now but I still have yet to bond with her. Tom is just so hard to forget.

That is a great story with your brother and how the cat made him happier and playful. I'm so sorry the cat was run over by a truck, oh that is sooo sooo sad indeed. I know how it is to bond with one cat and sometimes not another one. I have been that that way with my current cat too but I still love her anyways. Last night she finally slept net to me on the bed on the other pillow I have whereas most of the time she only sleeps on the bottom of the bed. I don't mind sleeping with an animal personally. The previous cat I had would be an arm hugger while sleeping and it did become uncomfortable at times but he was the sweetest cat with humans.
