Showing I.D.

When you're walking, do you think you should have to show your I.D.? I've been seeing lately on the internet and even know of someone personally that was walking and a police officer stopped them and asked for their I.D. I don't see why you should have to show your identity, if your just walking.

In some places the police do it for security reasons. For example, when there is some crime, and the perpetrators have not been caught then the police will conduct strict supervision in places that may be a place the fugitives wandering. In some cities the police are also doing it to minimize and catch illegal immigrants.

Don't we have enough security measures (TSA agents) and my point is at how far will they go. The person I personally know was stopped five times in a row, by the same police officer. That's not security reasons, that's harassment. The police are suppose to have justified cause to pull one over. What justified cause is there when you're walking? If they're doing it for security reasons, that's fine, if you've caught the person in the act of the crime, not just because they look suspicious.

i think it does happen and especially if your area or location has curfew... Some authorities are obliged to ask for our id to veriy your age as not all age are alowed to be out at a certain time of the day.. That is beyond the curfew time. Well i have not experienced it though... And wish not to experience it. Hehe id be terrified.

I don't have a problem with showing my I.D. anywhere I might be. I have nothing to hide and the police have a job to do. It is kind of weird and I would be curious as to why they would need to see my I.D. when I am walking but, again, they have their job to do. The less problem we give them the less problem we have.

Personally I also don't see why you have to show your ID for no reason. Also happened here a policemen asked for it but not even indentified himself (was not wearing his uniform). I don't think this is allowed. In my country you have to have your ID with you from the age of 12 years old. I seldom take it with me, if it get lost I need to pay a lot of money for it (my ID is my passport and it's written in it also that you are not allowed to give it into other hands and although I have to pay nearly 60 euro's for it it's also not my property). If I am on my bike or walking or shopping etc I also don't see the need why I should show it, same if I drive my car. Drivers license should do if I made a mistake.

I think we are in a era of paranoia. I understand they are doing it for safety purposes but I imagine it can get annoying. I am sure that there are officers out there that hate to ask for it as much as someone would hate to be stopped and have to show ID. I have never heard of it happening in my area thank goodness.

Nowadays, I think it depends on where you are walking, and what time of the day it is. If you're seen hanging around a government building (or for that matter a school even), I can understand why a police officer might ask. And especially with September 11th being talked about so much last month and this month...People get paranoid. And if I were a security guard or police officer I think I might be afraid of not being vigilant enough. Like, what if someone got by me and did something horrible? The feeling of responsibility would be great. That being said, I understand how it can get annoying. I myself would be annoyed. But I think I'd understand.

Some bad guys are also walking through the street,I think it's police officers' duty to find out them by checking the I.D.
