This is a Greek saying which I believe. I often use it and it is true. If your friends are nice people I would expect the same from you. If they are bad....then my "friend".....you are...quarantined! Tell me your thoughts on this. Do you have a similar saying in your country?

Before i do believe in that... But as times goes by, my belief about that changed. Because, i never committed things like drinking, smoking, stealing or even killing yet i have friends who do or had done such things. We are friends not because i do the same or i spoil them, we became friends because they needed me.. because they needed someone to pray and help them thru counseling or advices or simply needed a friend. I remember even Jesus' Disciples were not good people, yet He chose them because He believes in them. And i do believe there's nothing wrong if you have bad friends.. Its an opportunity actually. :) Just my thought! have a good day!

I will tell something that maybe you haven't thought of. If your friends needed a friend that means that they regretted doing those bad things but no one woul daccept them. So, they found you and your support. That means that they saw the light of goodness and you where there to support them. I say they are good people who lost their way. A nice person (you), found nice friends who made mistakes. So, the saying still apllies and you can't change it or change your mind about it. Ever.

My friends are lovely and easy to get along with. I don't really like such kind of people who is really arrogant. For girls are positive and love to laugh,i think bunch of persons loves life and always with better life.By the way, i also heard of this sentence.

We also have that saying but our actual words are, "Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are." They are just the same. Just like the saying that goes, "Birds of the same feathers flock together." I have the same thoughts as yours.

That's true, you know. A group of people will frequently hang out together if they share the same interest. For example, if they all like rock music, you can expect what type of people you will deal with.

Hi Kostas! That's a very good expression. It's been around from at least 1828 and is said to be a Spanish proverb, or so I read. We have a similar saying - "Birds of a feather flock together". Although I like yours better.

Is the saying the same there too?

I believe it is. But now I can't find the site where I read it. There are variations on it, too. "Show me your friends I'll show you who you are" et al. "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future" - Bill Cosby, American comedian. But the phrase "Birds of a feather flock together" is said to have come from the idea of the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus (c460BC), who stated: "Creatures flock together with their kind, doves with doves, cranes with cranes and so on".

I've never heard of this before, but it is very true. Same as if you are around negative people, your attitude reflects that. If you around nice generous people you reflect that as well.

A good friend is as good as a mirror,he will reflect you as you are and help you to correct yourself, whether you like it or not.Others who crowd around you will be sycophants, and they will desert you when you are in trouble.

Certainly really like it, I think someone would treat other people how to treat us. But if one is a good guy, even though he would still be nice.

My Mm used to tell us this saying all the time while we were growing up, "Show me your friends & I'll tell you who you are." It meant that if you hang out with a bad crowd even though you yourself might be a good person if your seen with such people then you will also be know as such a person.
