Do You Remember The TV Series "Emergency?"

Ok, besides watching the oldtime cowboy tv series that they play on Saturdays, I watched "Emergency" with Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe and Robert Fuller. I used to LOVE this show because it was so exciting and they were always helping people out and saving lives. Can you remember them calling Rampart, the hospital and talking with Robert Fuller who was the emergency doctor on call? And Robert Fuller would tell them just what to do until they arrived at the emergency ward.....so much fun to watch and so exciting. Todays episode involved a little boy who fell into a whole and got stuck. When he finally was rescued and taken to the hospital, the doctor (Robert Fuller) noticed his bruises were consistent with child abuse. It was a great show and yes, the parents were responsible. So, my question is, did any of these shows make you WANT to be a paramedic and if they did, did you become one? Or are you in a medical field because of some show you watched when you were younger and decided you just wanted to do that all your life? Or, are you in some OTHER field because of some program you watched on TV?

I don't think I was influenced by any show. I loved Dr. Kildare though and if I had chosen to be a nurse or something it would have been because of him!

He was gay? I didn't know that...intereesting. I remember him in some movie series on tv where he was a priest but fell in love with some girl. It was a super great series and you made sure you were done with anything important to watch it. Those were the good ol' days.

Yeh, me either. I was just curious to see if anyone turned out to be a paramedic because of one of these shows. Or a fireman, police officer..etc. I forgot about Dr. Kildare..he was a cutie too!

Kildare helped make Richard Chamberlain into a star and he went on to play in a lot of the big movies and mini-series of the '70's and '80's. A lot of women were infatuated with him and although he appreciated the attention, he was also unnerved because he was gay and didn't want anyone to know.

I remember Robert Fuller from starring on TV in Westerns during the '60's. He was on the TV show Laramie and then later went on Wagon Train replacing Robert Horton. A bit of trivia he had a shot at role in the TV show Bonanza but lost out to Michael Landon.

Really! Lost out to Michael Landon! Well, I like Michael Landon just as much but I bet he could have kicked himself for losing the role to him. He was another cutie of that time. I didn't watch Laramie that much but would probably get a kick out of it now if it ever came on again. Wagon train was awesome and I did watch that all the time...especially with Clint Eastwood...hunka hunka burning love, lol!

I loved Emergency-- and Quincy, too. I wanted to be a doctor (never made it) when I was a kid. I could never decide what kind of doctor-- a Marcus Welby, an ER Doctor, or a forensic pathologist, but I wanted to be in medicine, and I never missed an episode of my favorite shows. I have been watching them all again lately on the internet, and love seeing them all! I especially loved Quincy, because he was always finding fascinating clues, solving crimes and having adventures while carving up the corpses :-). I still watch mostly medical and crime scene shows on TV, and I also read a lot of medical mysteries and true crime novels. Heck, if I could go back to school now, I'd become a coroner or a brain surgeon. The new medical shows are good too-- I especially like House. House is so amazingly funny :-)

Oh for sure Quincy! I watched that religiously, lol! It was completely fascinating to me to see the new thing...forensics. My eyes were glued to the tv set when that came on. I watch all that stuff too, like 60 minutes which shows all the crime stuff, love it! And house!..LOVE HIM! I haven't watched it recently because of some other programs I'm watching but I think he is my hero. I wish all doctors were like him..then we'd all be cured, hahahahaha! And have a good looking doctor to boot!

House is definitely not bad looking :-). I always thought Quincy was totally amazing, the way he would find all those tiny clues-- I used to go to the library and read up on medical things to see how much they showed was true. I also love CSI and NCIS for the same reason-- crime scenes are fascinating on TV. In real life, they're smelly and not so cool-- but still really interesting. My father was a superintendent for apartment complexes when I was growing up, and we had things happen in a few of them-- it was cool watching how the police and examiners worked on the scene, but cleaning the apartments after was awful.

That was a good show. I didn't have any tv show that influenced me to be a hairdresser or anything else.

Yeh, sometimes I forget how good these shows are until I watch one. It's fun that they are showing them again and I kind of look forward to it. I did all sorts of different jobs so I don't think any one in particular made me go into that direction. There were 3 jobs I liked the best. One was a craft center which rented booths, a gardening center, and a Native American jewelry store.

It's a bit bizarre. i was just thinking of this series the other day when i saw Kevin tighe in a movie. I was an avid viewer of emergency when i was a teenager. It was a great show with sinething for everyione to enjoy.

Yes, I agree with you and it still is good to watch all over again. It's been so many years that I sit here glued to the tv and that's what makes a good tv series. It did have something for everyone!

I don't recall George Clooney..what a hunk though! You might be thinking of Robert Fuller who is very handsome himself. I just wanted to meet them all, hahaha!

Oh yeh, he was a cutie! Well good for you in helping people that way. I tried it and couldn't do it. I just wanted to go and help people in the sense of reading to them, doing their household chores, light dinners, ett., and no one wanted me to do this. They all wanted me to work with sick people and I told them I can't do that..just not my thing. I'm very happy there are people who CAN do this type of work, but just not me.

Emergency was awesome. The show did lead to a rise in paramedic programs. In fact, the station depicted in the show really exists (sadly not Johnny and Roy). They still use "KMG 367" as their call sign.

Now that's funny! I often wondered about that..if it made people want to become paramedics. Such an exciting show and I really liked it a lot. I can't believe they still use that as their call sign...wow! Amazing!
