cereal packets save plastic

I was given a good environmental tip from my daughter. She removes the bags inside cereal boxes and uses them instead of buying plastic bags for refrigerated food. They work really well, they are much stronger, they are a practical size and you can wash and use them over and over again. It even saves a few pence, I never buy small or medium food bags now. Has anyone else tried this?

I do not use a lot of bags, as I have plastic containers. I also will save glass jars. I make a lot of home made cereal. It is a great idea though and I do save bags from other things to use for storage and such.

I also use plastic containers as they are ideal for stacking up, reusable for a longer time and are easy to clean and keep.

Would they be good in the freezer too? As someone who buys a lot of cereals for the kids, and as someone who often divides and repackages meat from the store for a small family, I think this would be a great idea! Thanks for the tip!

Hi friend, good to hear you shared a great tip with your daughter which helped to save the environment. AS we know plastic is not good for the environment, we must avoid the usage of plastics to keep our environment

Yes, I do use them for years, somebody had to point it out to me when I was younger though and until then, it became a habit. I do not throw these plastic bags I get not only from cereal but from other products that has same packaging.

I haven't tried this but I will try. I think your daughter is right. It's not just savings in the pocket but also saving teh environment. We need to find ways on how we can reuse things to lessen wastes. This way we are helping in our own little ways. In my home, I always keep the plastics and those tiny clean ones that I could give back to seller I do, they could reuse or sometimes I use to store other things at home. I don't just trash things as if I am abundant with it.

Thanks for sharing this great idea. I have never tried it but it does makes sense as that also locks food well and also saves you from buying plastic bags that will be unnecessary later on when used. Happy mylotting :)

It's not something I've thought of, although I do try to reuse everything I can. I would guess this would be good for storing cheese, which would save using kitchen foil. I'll try this when my husband's emptied his box of Kellogs Cornflakes - thanks.
