Saturday morning pictures

We didn't call them 'movies' in those days, they were simply 'the pictures' and Saturday morning pictures were available for all the children in my neighbourhood. Not all were desirable because some were a little rough and things got thrown around, in particular dropped down from the floor above. So we had to be careful where we went and where we sat. Befopre the films started the lights dimmed and we had a singalong with the words on the screen and a little white dot following them. I learned a lot of old songs that way. As we got older we took on some of the responsibilites of keeping things calm and had armbands to show our ranking. This meant we got in for free. I remember and love those old films.

I used to love the driveins they were far from the city so I never got to see them that often, that made it all the more exciting we I got a drive to them.

Hello 41 and welcome to myLot. I didn't get to go to the movies except with my grandparents. We usually went on Saturday evening so there weren't many kids at the theater alone to act as you say some did. We lived out in the country and only went to town once a week for groceries a meal treat in a restaurant and a movie, Usually a western. I remember the balcony because we went up there so Grandpa could smoke. I don't think any one got in free for keeping the kids calm. We had Ushers that showed people where to sit and kept things under control. Those were the days weren't they?

yeah my granny says those old days were the golden days where every ate together in unity and life was beautiful. I am sure those old pictures you are referring to must have been wonderful. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.
