Affording college

I will never understand this but it happens all the time! I work at a college and lot of students start college and drop out like after a semseter because they can't afford school! The other day I heard a girl had to drop out after just one month of school! I am like WTF? Why did she come to school if she could not afford it? I know there are parents who pay or help pay for college. Students sometimes get grants, school loans, scholarships and once inwhile have other relatives pay for their schooling. What I am getting at is: why go to college if you arn't able to afford it? That is what i want to know!

Because they obviously hadn't given it any thought before they started. They can get grants, school loans, and scholarships if they try and think ahead. People don't think ahead. They hurry through it all and expect it to just happen and be available to them. They aren't proactive or think ahead at all.

It is really sad too because this is a very important decision to be made in ones life.

I think what happens is that parents promise to help pay and then for some reason they do not. I have a friend who's parents stopped paying for her schooling because she refused to go into the college major that her parents wanted her to go into. My friend wants to major in Theater Arts and her parents want her to major in business. My friend took three business courses and failed them all (no she did not do this on purpose) and yet her parents told her that she failed the courses because all she cares about is Drama and Acting not anything else. I think it is wrong of parents to tell their kids what to do with their lives.

I have know paretns who wanted their child to take the major they wanted to and didn't! I know guy who wanted his daughter to become a doctor's assistent or a pharmacist. She didn't want to and majored in what she loves;learning German! Now she is teaching it! No child should be pressured into taking a major mom and dad want! Anyway I am sure there are alot students out who had parents paying for their schooling and they stopped!

That is a good question...maybe they hope something will come along so they can afford it.....or maybe they thought they could do it but found out later they couldn't.....its too bad everyone can't afford a good education isn't it?

I doubt I will ever understand this! It just seems like these college students don't look into all the options that are out there! Maybe they thought they could afford college but found out they couldn't. Whatever the reason, getting an education is important but there are ways to do it! I just wonder where all the common sense has gone to?
