Maintaining a muscular body

I am very conscious of my body because this is where I get my confidence from. I used to be thin but now I have grown some muscles just enough too make feel good and look good. I wanted to maintain a proportioned body like what I have now. But my current job demands a lot of time and I can't get much time to go to the gym. My job also demands shifting wherein I can be assigned in night shift or midshifts. I wonder how can I make time to go to the gym? And also how can I make maintain my body without becoming thin due to abnormal shifts at work?

A run to the gym 3x a week is enough for you to be able to maintain the body that you have now. Maybe you could also buy some dumb bells that you can use at home when you are not able to go to the gym. That is how my son maintained his body. In summer he goes to the gym everyday! I sometimes get mad coz he stays there for about 3 hours a day. But the results was good. Now that is is unable to come to the gym that often coz of school, he just do his exercises at home and lift some weights.

I've seen him very meticulous with the food that he eats. He makes sure that they are always healthy. He bought some dumb bells and also an ab machine (the one seen on tv) and also some power juice. That is just what I see him do.

Yeah. Those power juices are quite expensive but can really help gain muscles and weight. He puts a lot of investment in his body. If I can find cheaper but effective supplements then it will help me through my body.

Good thing your son knows how to maintain his body. But me, I am having trouble with maintain mine. I used to go to the gym and I was very proud of my body. But now I have observe that I have shrinked and it wasn't the body that I used to love. But it is still good compared when I was five years ago. I've got to figure out how to be like your son. Could you ask him how he did it?

well it's all about eating the right food and avoid fatty foods. Also it is important that you get 6-8 hours of sleep a day and regular workout at the gym. If whey is necessary, you may take so. It is also important to be patient when maintaining a muscular body because sometimes our cravings beat our discipline and our desires in maintaining our shape.

Yeah. All of the things you said are true. But sometimes I can't keep up with it because my work demands a lot of time. Consequently, I also get short amount of sleep everyday. What should I do?

It's nice to do exercise through practical things, things that are already in your daily schedule which you don't need to set aside time for after work, on weekends, etc. For instance, instead of riding the car to work, you can bike to work instead (perhaps leave home earlier and take the longer and harder route for a good workout). If you live in an apartment on the second floor, you can lift your bike daily to your unit, instead of leaving it outside. Also, encourage your self to save up instead of spending your money on carbohydrate-rich food and snacks. How about daring yourself to cut off on sweets for a whole week or even one month? It feels great after, I'm telling you. I'm doing these things right now, and not only am I saving money, but I'm getting a bit of muscle too. It won't be comfortable. You have to sacrifice to become fit and healthy. It's nice to get a bit of discomfort once in a while too. It makes you more thankful for the regular conveniences of life. Once in a while I sign up to climb mountains and go camping. Mountaineering/hiking is a great and rewarding form of sport too. You could try it for vacation :)

The things you mentioned in the first paragraph are for persons who want to be slim. My aim is to gain weight and muscles. I think the one you said about climbing, hiking and camping are physical activities in which you can grow muscles and strengths. But these can also make you slimmer. Thanks for the comment.

Discipline is really needed. I think your better have good time management so that you can still maintain it.Or better yet search some exercises that you can do at home that could maintain your body now. Our work is really demanding on our time so we really have to find time to do other things that we wanted to do. Good luck to you and do hope that you can do it.

Discipline is not the only thing you need, you also need time management. I was wondering if having shifting schedules will disrupt my body growth even though I am always dedicated to workout?

Hi friend, as you mentioned you don't have time to go to gym, why don't you try some home based fitness exercises? if you have the ability you can buy some gym equipment for your self and use it in your free time, try out the simple exercises like skipping, jogging, running, swimming and other exercises while getting time, it will help you to be fit

I don't have the money to buy gym equipments yet. I am relying on home based exercise in which I can gain muscles. My problem always is to get enough energy while exercise so that I can grow muscles and my body will grow too. Having shifting schedules at work usually destroys my schedule for working out. I am finding a way to workout effectively.

I am sure, you have a day-off. But, with your work schedule. You would just choose to rest and sleep.

Yeah. By that time I should have been very tired because of work. Why would I still engage in physical activities if I don't have enough energy, It will be useless to go to the gym. I need to find a way to get my body to its right proportions.

get some weights and work out at home and still get nice and 'muscular so you can keep up your self esteem too. Although Iam female I do know about shift work as i used to work as a nurses aid and had to rotate through the three shifts also my work kept me muscular enough for a female.but for guys weights and push ups and sit ups will work wonders for a guy.

Thanks for the comment. I work in shifting schedules and it really disarranges my working out habits. Because I am so tired at work, I won't have enough energy to workout. I need to find a technique on how I can workout effectively during changes work times.

Being able to maintain a muscular body is something that I think a lot of people would struggle with. It is different from maintaining a slim body, because of the fact that being slim just requires you not to eat junk food, whereas being muscular requires you to put a lot of work into the way that your body looks. If you don't have the time to go to the gym then perhaps you could buy a pull up bar and some free weights for your home? That way you would be able to make sure that you could always do at least a little bit of exercise each day, but you would never have to go to the gym if you didn't have the time to do so. You would also be able to save money in the long term because of the fact that you wouldn't have to pay for gym memberships.

Yeah. Thanks. I don't have pull ups at home. I also need to figure out the technique in working out effectively. What other exercises can I do except from push ups and pull ups?

good for you you were able to tone your body and make it even look muscular. I also tone my body because I play basketball but I don't overdo my gym workouts that much because I want to have the same strength and speed that I have. I do not want to be heavier because it may slow down my game.
