Buying a 5 Year Old Golden Lab: Is it a worthy investment?

A friend of mine is selling away her dogs because she's transferring to a new house. The place is not so conducive to dogs, so she decided to sell her beloved dogs. And mind you, she doesn't sell them to just anybody but to people she knows would invest so much love to her beloved pets as she had already did. I'm lucky enough to be one of these people. She's selling me her 5 year old male lab. The dog is complete with papers(PCCI and other stuff). The dog has actually undergone K-9 training for bomb and marijuana sniffing and has garnered awards in dog shows over the province. All this for the price of Php 12,000. Do you think it's a good decision to buy the dog? By the way, I'm still trying to convince my friend to give the dog for free.

Am not sure but I know dogs have a lifespan of 7-10 years only so if she is 5 then I guess she is already old already. So if you are planning to get her then there may be some problems in dealing with the dog changing new masters. I was thinking if it was still a puppy then I guest the adjustment will not be that hard.

Glad you had it free instead. I think Labrador has this facial expression that really is very good to look at. They are big but they do not look intimidating and is actually very pleasant to look at as compared to other breeds. I have this neighbor of mine that has that breed and they are just very cuddly kind of dog.

I take it you are dog lover yourself, rsa101. I tip my hat in your direction, if my assumptions are correct. Kudos to you, my friend. Yes, I completely agree with you. They may be big dogs but they're actually very friendly. My lab usually growls and bark "politely" when he meets new people, especially my friends and loved ones. But, after a while, you can see him wagging his tail and playing with that person as if he had known him/her for a long time already. By this time, I think I have already answered my own question regarding this discussion. I believed the dog is indeed worth my while, and if ever money was involved in acquiring my new best bud at home, then I definitely would never think twice about investing my hard earned money with it. Thanks for diligently responding to this discussion.

Yeah you can say that I am a dog lover since I have experienced rearing and even trained my dogs when I was a bit younger. But now I could not afford to have one for now since I do not have the time anymore.
