When I'm down with the flu, I don't like taking medicine from the doc's. I prefer natural remedies. So when I have a cold, I'll drink hot tea mix with a bit of honey, and voila! I feel better, seriously. I find the drink very soothing, and when you're relax, so does your body able to deal with that pesky cold ;) Sometimes, a warm ginger drink (mild) will help too. Anyone wants to share their natural remedies for the common cold? Maybe there are some I've never heard of before. It might help me some in the future ;)

Well, I've had the cold for a week and I've been using 'natural' remedies the whole time. I drank hot lemon tea with some lemon, ate hot healthy food, and... I still felt sick. You know, I just don't find myself buying the whole 'natural remedy' thing. I don't think it's really working. I gave in and went to the Doctor's today. He prescribed some antibiotics and advised a certain over-the-counter cold medicine. I took that this afternoon, and I can't say I'm cured but I do feel a whole lot better than I did after just drinking the hot tea. I don't particularly like the idea of throwing a pill at everything that ails me, but throwing hot tea at it doesn't seem that effective either.

I mean hot lemon tea (technically a lemon green tea called Lemon Zinger) with some honey. lol Not a double dose of lemon. Ow. Even so, it really isn't having much of an effect.

Oh, sorry to hear that, I hope you're feeling better already. I'm not saying natural remedies is the best way to go as opposed to taking medicines and going to the docs, after all we have to know our body and it's needs when we're sick :) Maybe for me, it's because as I've said, I don't like taking meds, therefor my body's resistant is not reliant on the prescribed meds and have a natural strength in combating the germs and viruses.I seldom get sick, but when I do, a good day's rest, light fruits and vegetable-based dishes, maybe hot soup, will perk me right up. But thanks for responding, and I agree: a double dose of lemon makes anyone go O_O o.O x_x, lol!

Hi, Try fruit juice, like pineapple, pressed oranges or any fruit processed through a blender. Calamansi or lemon juice, warm or cold, are the best for this with sugar or honey. Makes the appetite more sharp during these times of bitter tasting tongue due to the common cold. I also hear vitamin C is also good for combating the virus, maybe it aids in the fortification of the antibodies during the course of the sickness.

I agree with rog, I tend to take a lot of fruits and juices that I can obtain Vitamin C. I also drink a lot of water for it also relieves my cold somehow.

Hello, both, and thank you for sharing :) So basically, it's lots of fruits and juice, got it. Sometimes, I take lemon juice with a bit of honey too. I like it warm though. I've never heard of pineapple juice being good for the cold though, so thanks for sharing. I also heard the same thing re. Vit C, so there's truth in it, I guess.

First of all, Hello, Captain Jack Sparrow, I quite love you ;) Lol, he's like one of my favorite characters, so entertaining and rascally good :P Secondly, your method for natural cure sounds very appealing to me since I prefer taking herbal or natural products myself when I'm sick. If nothing else, they're quite healthy, especially fresh pruduce like fruits and juices. Thanks for sharing :)

I had been down with flu for three before I started drinking ginger tea. At first, I nursed myself with flu medicines but it actually didn't work for me. Now, I have known that natural remedies like our fellow mylotters have suggerted are better than meds. I also drink a lot of water and I change my clothes as often as I can because I sweat a lot.

Oh, that's one more thing I forgot, thanks for reminding me: I think we can all agree that even the doctors we go to would recommend we drink lots of water when we're having the flu. Lol, mine sure does the one time I caved in and saw him :P Which was what started me on my natural remedies actually, I figured the best he could do was build up my resistant to the cold virus by prescribing me meds, so I just went with the natural ways, eating fruits and drinking juices :P Thanks :)

Seriously? Wow, thanks for sharing. This is why I asked, because you learn another way, exactly like this *thumbs up*. By the way, do you add the garlic after you crushed it, or just add it whole to the mustard oil?

Hi lynnes75. I often read from medical magazines as well as comments from medical practitioners, that there are no exact medicines for cold. They say that rest, lots of liquid intakes and fruits will do. I am glad you presented this kind of healthy discussion, I have learned lots of remedies for common cold.

Hi, lonelyseeker, although I hope soon you will remain lonely no more ;) I believe you're right, I heard the same thing too. Usually, those three natural treatments you mentioned are the most commonly recomemmended by even doctors! And this is after they give out the prescribed meds, lol! And it's no problem, I'm glad you're also sharing your opinion :)

My mom thinks the same; she said when you take meds for a common colds, it's like "nursing" the virus to be resistant to the meds thereby making you even more sick since meds have side effects and it doesn't cure the colds anymore. She also swears by the instant healing powers of ginger tea. For young kids, she mixes in some honey to ease up the spiciness a bit.

Yes, exactly, good to know your mom agrees with me :D I also think that a cold is common enough, it comes and goes, so there's no need to take meds every single time; just as your mom explained it, the virus learns to build a resistant to the medicine. But I think natural remedies helps your antibodies to strengthen itself up, actually. My dad also prefers taking ginger juice, although he's very hardcore and take it pure O_O I prefer a bit of lemon and honey with mine. Thanks :)
