The senator admitted to the American news organization CBS News that he was one of two senators who inserted the libel clause in the recently-enacted Republic Act No. 10175. Sotto claimed that the libel clause is not to clamp down free speech but only to protect ordinary people who are victim by online attack and character assassination. Meanwhile Guigona points out while libel committed through traditional print media is punishable by up to four years and two months of imprisonment, online libel is punishable by a shocking 12-year imprisonment period,”. Many doubts Sotto true intentions about the insertion. They suspect him of having an axe to grind with the online Filipino community who accused him plagiarism for allegedly plagiarizing an American blogger and the late Sen. Robert Kennedy for his speeches.

Here he goes again. I think that Sotto is getting so unpopular because of his recent moves in the senate. I think this cybercrime law should be revised and recalled because it looks like from the point of law it has some flaws in it. I think that it is high time that this law should be implemented in the midst of opur current situation where many are victimized but I guess it needs more refinement and those that are legislating it should not be biased on the issue.

Yes I guess the Libel provision inserted was quite exaggerated here. I think that Sen. Sotto inserted this provision just to bully those that bullied them on the net. But I think there is the question if this was consitutional which I think will be deliberated on SC today. I am just not happy with the way hackers are doing on government sites right now. I think this kind of protest is a bit unacceptable in my opinion. They are going beyond the limits by disrupting freedom itself. There are many forms of protest that can be done but doing this vandalism is just not an acceptable means I guess.

I heard over the radio Sotto is denying he is the one who inserted this libel provision on it. I think that no one would want to be on the limelight on this issue. He even is actually trying pass the buck to the principal author of this law with Sen. Angara and he said that it maybe in the House of Representatives that this provision was inserted. Oh well nobody wants to acknowledge now who is who in this issue.

We need a cybercrime law to protect us from cybercriminals but because of bias senators that inserted the very unpopular libel provision, this law became controversial to the eyes of Filipino cyber community. The community see imprisonment as an imminent threat to our free-wheeling bloggers, commentators, repliers and others who write in the internet.

How infuriating! I read somewhere Escudero claimed he overlooked something on this law, too, and he would amend it soon enough. Sotto is pathetic! The senators we have, shame!

Am not surprised for the Chiz, his heart is crossed, and he had been employing the dirty old trick, fall in love with someone known in showbiz, like what Migz Zubiri did to Vina Morales, and that's, to his mind, is a win-win strategy, if he finds himself in love again. Bad taste to one's mouth, if you ask me. Hope the Heart sees it, and uncross whatever they are willing to brew up. Sigh. I sayeth none for the WU alumnus, better known now as the Plagiarist. Ang magulang, kay hirap ng turuan dahil sa kagulangan.

Election fever is in the air, and Chiz needs publicity to stay in the limelight. Our politicians will do anything for publicity and to stay in the news. Ang politics parang showbiz at ang showbiz parang politics, kaya ang nangyayari - kenkoyan ng lang! Kaya ayan, the Plagiarist, is still in the Senate, ilang termer na ba'to? Because the people love showbiz, kaya they love to put the CLOWN in the senate. But it isn't getting funny anymore.

It's a a pity for Senator Chiz to overlook the insertion of libel clause in Cybercrime act, having been the proponent to decriminalize libel cases( Senate Bill Number 2162 which he file to the senate on 2010 ). Sotto is a joke and disgrace to his grandfather legacy(Soto law Republic Act No. 53). I hope he just stay in EAT BULAGA 4ever!

He really doesn't get it does he? the plagiarism was a big mistake and he didn't apologize for it. it was even stupid to plagiarize Sen. Kenedy's speech which is totally embarrassing to me as a filipino citizen. more embarrassing was that he was interviewed and denied plagiarism

I don't think he will ever get. An entire nation sees who he is and he himself is oblivious. That is the worst kind of public servant I have ever saw.

I don't need to drag his past, his present deeds is enough to prove that he is indeed not qualified to be in the senate. Who needs a clown? He want us to be put in jail for telling the truth about him,and I'm not laughing.

The law as a whole is so O.A. I really hated it so much. How can we stop it? Hope senator sotto will realize how many rights will be stepped by the said law. I do hope he had settled his own case first.

The supreme court with a unanimous vote has stop the implementation of cybercrime law for 120 days! With the world on eyes with what is happening here, I just hope the controversial provision will be scrapped out before the deadline.

Sotto is such a shame! Why do we Filipinos keep voting people for public office just because they're popular! His Cybercrime Law is a trash!

Yes, we keep on voting trash candidates in the government and all they give us are truckload of trash services and they want us to shut up by inserting this libel provision.

I think he should be careful next time in quoting other people's speech or content. After all, there are people who are very meticulous and it's hard to escape the eyes of truth.

I think Sotto is not learning his lesson. He did it once and then the second time around. And to show he is not repenting, he vent his anger to his cyber critics by inserting the now infamous libel provision of the cybercrime law.
