An Item that's been in UK news this past week or so was about the 30yo Teacher and his 15yo girl student running away together to France..After travelling around together they were eventually found and are being repatriated (and She's perhaps back in the UK by now..)Aside from the emotional trauma for the family the events caused, one newspaper article mention caught my attention..the girl allegedly travelled to France using her 37yo Mother's Passport! It makes you think what abuse of a passport could result in,in the wrong hands...?

Makes ya wonder how a 15 yr old could pass for a 37 year old... the person looking at it didn't OBVIOUSLY...

we've all heard of faked ID's and teens using makeup to appear older, but somebody must have been at the end of a long shift to let this one pass...

I saw a video where there was this girl who was, they said, 14. She LOOKED 18, very mature physically... I, on the other hand, at 15 could pass for 12... I think I look my age now, or older, but until I was in my 40's I passed for younger. Then the weight and sun caught up with me.

And how many children look like their parents at certain ages. Wonder what they can do about that?

I suppose that It might become an issue if kids started widely passing themselves off as their parents to leave the country..

Thankfully, not that many teachers decide to do a runner with an underage student half their age,so the circumstances rarely come up that "borrowing" a Parent's (or someone else's..) passport would be necessary.. but wouldn't these new biometric passports have countermeasures to prevent a family resemblance to the holder getting away with it?

That is true. If word gets out they may too.

The passport photo is small and some family members look rather alike. An example of that would be identical twin men not a 37 year old mother and a teenage daughter though because of the age difference. In the past like before the 9/11 terrorist event in New York I noticed they just looked at the passport cover often enough. Now they tend to look at the personal information page and see the person's face checking it with the persons face in front of them. They have asked me to move my disabled son's wheelchair back from the desk so he can see his face. It was shocking the 30 year old teacher ran away with the 15 year old school girl. I wonder how she got away with using her 37 year old mums passport. I am glad the couple were caught in France and are back in the United Kingdom now.

Looks like the US Style ID verification methods haven't yet reached the UK/Euro controls..
