Hello Lotters, Who would have thought that after all these years, this time would actually come. that the possibility of the US bases returning to the Philippines. I was never actually aware of such base in Subic until Goodbye American Move was aired. Not to mention, Richard Gordon cast himself as the Mayor of Olongapo then, so young so thin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjxYWnMLXBg I am sorry, but with the high threat coming from China, we need United States on this one. we have to. Do you think you comfortable getting them back?

There are disavantages and advantages of having the US Military's return in the Philippines, if this is true. But I don't want to think of those disadvantages because there more benefits of having them. I am sure those the so-called makabayan will disagree, but come to think of it we need America.

Hello gpldeguzman, maybe if we have a million army and work force that can able to create ships of our own then we wouldn't be having this much trouble. I think the return of the US military is an insult to the Country as well because we didn't took care of our government and let it fell to corrupt public servants

somehow I agree with you that it will be an insult to our country but our government officials as well as the military never learn from their mistakes, corruption is still visible. Corruption is really the root of all evil in the Philippines. Hope in pray the voters (since election is just few months away), will be intelligent and wise in selecting our public officials.

Hi, I am no enemy of America, I am no communist, so I have no objections for them being here. If they just abide by our rules, if the American personnel in the military base respect the rights of the men and women in this Republic, if they make friendly relationships with the locals, then everything shall be fine.

Hello rog0322, well the disadvantage is that some of them wont. but they have been making good friendly relations with the locals. but i still there is risk of abuse coming from other GI's most specially to those who are not used in going to other countries. sad part is that no one really knew about it much

I do not know about that but what I only know is that they are having some military exercises again in that area and I have not heard of any proposal that they return to their old naval base again. I think this would be hard already since the base is already converted to a private and commercial place already. It would be hard for them to re establish themselves there since they are military base they should be located in a place that is not loaded with commercial establishments around and within the base already. They can park their ships there but to maintain it there would be security risks since the base is already open to the public which could be infiltrated with terrorist posing as tourist.

Hello Rsa101, they have always had this balikatan exercises for a very long time now, but that's just it. there's no navy fleets that has dock for the moment there. well, if the base would come back, they would have their own security to be strict and prevent it from getting blown up. well, another good income opportunity yet again for the People of Subic. have a nice day.

I'm always comfortable with Americans so for me it's not a big deal. It's just sad to know that we have to "fight" other countries for jurisdiction issues, for me we are all citizens of this "lonely" planet and should work peacefully together. :)

Hello Eppie2010, We are not fighting other countries but merely making a stand on our territory which China is agressively claiming recently. well, if only there's some aliens out there threatening us, then we wouldn't be in this trouble in the first place. we would instead fight together against alien threat. have a nice day .

U.S. bases returning is not the same as the U.S. bases before or during the cold war, circumstances has simply changed. Now if you are talking about the U.S. pivot to Asia then Subic would surely serve the purpose considering our position in Asia, the same with the former South Vietnamese base at Cam Ranh Bay. Honestly it is more to do with guarding free navigation and sea lanes that is vital to American interest, now with regards to external aggression, we can never count on anybody but our selves, the mutual pact is good but it's still us, Philippine must be strong in itself to deter external aggression, we are being picked upon simply because we are a weak link, so it's good that we give the right signal not to mess with us, America is welcome but no one wants to be allied with a corrupt and a weakling, think and hope the present administration is taking care of that right now, i hope.

I don't see any wrong for Americans backing here in our country. you see we our country has been an ally for almost decades now, from WWII to up to present. for years we are just maintaining the ties we had, to enhance or grow this ties Philippines should open again Subic or any military bases as there are some treats facing our country. I think we really need them since our military forces are weak.

Hello Mrsuniega, Nope it's not just that we have been mutually allied to every single achievement except military I don't know. we will always have good ties with united states, but i hope one day we would have a strong military of our own because i really doubt that US can stand for us in a while. our military is weak but our corruption is strong.

Even after Subic Bay is returned to the rightful owner, the bi-lateral joint defence treaty is still valid, it doesn't means when Phillippine is under attack militarily, US will not intervene and will standby since they don't have a base there anymore. US is still obligated to fulfill its role under the term and will assist if help is requested from an old time ally in Pacific Ocean.
