We had our executive conference which was participated in by the different officers of the department coming from the municipalities of the province and the personnel from the provincial office. We were expected to come to the conference in proper uniform. But our boss was disappointed that only some of us were able to wear our uniform. Our boss reiterated the order previously released that requires us to wear our new set of uniform starting the 1st day of October. This is in consonance with the Civil Service Resolution No. 002525. He also reminded the group of the corresponding penalties and for non compliance of this order. For the 1st offense, a reprimand shall be given to the personnel concerned. 1 day up to 30 days suspension shall be given for the second offense and on the 3rd offense, the penalty shall be dismissal from service. To all my friends who are in government service, is your office strictly implementing this law too? This is a reminder for all of us that a simple act of negligence can be a cause for dismissal. Have a nice day!

In my opinion, wearing the uniform will show more professional and the most important part I think it show the respect to who you serve for. But if not wearing the precribed uniform will cause for the dismissal from service,I think it is too strict, may be some little penalty will be enough such as impose a fine.

For heaven's sake! This is a typical example of an organization that has its eyes only on the form and not the content. Have you seen government employees at their offices on uniform doing nothing? Have you seen a government worker without uniform working until the wee hours of the evening. The point is that the work of any government offices is not bench marked on how good looking you are in your shiny uniform! Offices are judged and rated by the amount of work output that they give. Have you seen an organization with beautiful uniform and excel in the business? Have you seen how Apple thrive in the IT business? Apple requires no uniform. The late CEO Steven Jobs goes to work wearing only jeans and shirt. Yet he guided the company to greatness. Jobs and Apple employees would probably not attained those accomplishments has they focused on aligning their uniform, worrying how they would look in the office. Finally, the University of the Philippines thrives as a premier university in the Philippines without requiring its employees, faculty, and students to wear any prescribed uniform. Are they punished by Civil Service Resolution No. 002525? No. The requirement is that you wear something that will cover you and bring your BRAIN. To most in the government service they bring their uniform and leave their brains at home!

Hi soc! Thank you for the comprehensive discussion you have shared regarding this matter. Actually, the main idea I wanted to impart on this discussion is the compliance to an order issued by the authority. I like the idea that you shared with us. However, when there is no rule on this particular matter, most likely, those who are working in a certain organization can wear anything to their liking. In our department, we wanted to show simplicity and professionalism in every way. We are not allowed to wear so many decorations in our body. They referred it as ostentatious display of wealth. Wearing appropriate dress for working should be observed at all times. Thank you for sharing!

Oh okay I think that is fair enough that there are levels of warning before the employee is dismissed from service. I think the only thing that will concern many will be the implementation which would depend on how lax or strict each government office would implement this ruling. But I guess wearing the uniform would not be a problem since it was provided by the agency itself. Besides that it would be economical to wear uniforms for the employees. It can also easily identify the employee and those that are not when everybody is wearing it.

Some employees would also complaint because some of us are reporting in field offices and really sometimes it it not very convenient to be wearing these uniform most especially if the weather is hot. But of course a law should be complied with no matter what are our reasons maybe. Thank you for sharing!

Well if there is a rule to follow, the best thing to do is obey. I believe it is fair to dismiss those who will not follow the prescribed rules. If they require wearing the uniform then do. Any one who does not like wearing uniform should just resign. Yes you are right indeed... simple act of negligence may lead to dismissal. Is it quite embarrassing to dismissed all because you failed to follow wearing the right uniform? If one is not able to follow simple rules then how much more the the non-simple ones?

Well, abiding by the rules is the best thing to do. Personally, I would like to wear uniform all the time as having one does not entail much cost on our day to day activities. We won't be having problem on what to wear everyday.

So far as I can think, an uniform refills a personel with a sense or mood of rendering service to others. Abiding by the service rules is a must for being in job.

I am not in government service, but we do have our office policy on uniform. We also set warnings and memos for those who doesn't wear the proper uniform. And yes, if one doesn't heed the memos and warnings given he/she could be eventually dismissed. I think it is just but proper for a company to do that, because since it's their policy, everyone concerned should abide by it. If you don't want to abide by it, then you might as well find another company who don't have office uniforms.

I never had the experience of being in government service but I have worn a company uniform for almost 10 years of my employment with a private company. Not wearing the uniform once there is a policy to that effect can actually mean disciplinary action. Uniforms are very important in government service considering the number of fraud and scams. The uniform including identification cards identifies the true employees with which to communicate and transact with. However, when dealing with government offices, I have noticed that many employees choose not to wear the uniform. I hope that these employees take note of the above mentioned civil Service Resolution in order to strictly comply. If I may add, it would be worthwhile to see government employees wearing their identification cards in addition to the uniforms. This reduces the incidences of strangers posing themselves as employees to engage in fraudulent activities.

Wearing uniform is important in order for you to be identified in which organization you belong. But... if you are being dismissed by your boss for not wearing uniform it is not also right. He can give you warning before giving dismissal. Maybe hedoesnt know "substance over form".
