hello to all my friends and everyone here in mylot! it has been over three years since the last time i started a discussion... as a member in mylot for over four years, it's a kind of embarrassing to have just a small number 460 tag along beside my name... can you imagine that as a mylotter for over four years, i am still unable to use the copy and paste feature because of my rating number is still below 500! actually, the reason i start this discussion is not to complain about my low rating number... because i know it is my own fault for not being active posting here for the past three years. LOL! as i have now returned to be active again in mylot, i noticed that some mylotters rating number are not increasing much although they are actively started lots of discussions and responding to lots of discussions too. my question is do you know how the rating number works? 1) if we start a discussion, do we get +1 straight away? 2) if we respond to a discussion, do we also get +1 straight away? 3) how about if we comment in a discussion? do we get +1 or not?

Hi Victory, Don't worry too much about the rating just go on responding to the discussions you will see it increasing with it.You can maximum get 2 points in a discussion for a response and a comment on someone's response. But I don't understand why do you worry much for it there is nothing wrong if it does not increase but still you want to reach 500 activity rating at the earliest then choose discussions and respond and comment on someone else's response you will straightway get +2 points.

hi sjvg1976, you are right, i shouldn't have to worry about the rating number. thank you for your advice that i can get +2 straight away after responding and comment on others' discussions.

it's alright, aireanna18. let's strive together towards the 500 rating number goal. i think you may be faster than me to achieve it because i'm well known of being a snail aka tortoise in mylot in terms of rating number. LOL!

You know, I could be mistaken, but today after this enlightening discussion I have been kind of trying to monitor my activity rating to see my new found knowledge in action. Well, I am noticing that when it is not my discussion I do not always get +2. I'm not sure why. It could be that sometimes my comments to others posts are too short or something because sometimes I may just follow up with a brief question about the previous post. Like victorywp, I would like to eventually reach that 500 activity rating, but seeing that I barely made it 500 it is probably going to take me awhile to get there. LOL! Well, I will have fun striving for that goal.

I believe that the number beside my name is increasing correspondingly if I increase my posts on new response to discussions. I'm so conscious about this when I was a month old here, but as time pass by.As long as do good here, make quality posts and be interactive to have a harmonious community, I will worry about the number beside my name. Good luck. Its nice to see you again here. Thanks

Your welcome! I know how it is when we have a big goal that we feel like it is going to take us forever to reach it is easy to feel like we will never reach it. Small terms goals help us to feel successful on a regular basis. I know the only way I stayed focused through a 2 year master's degree program was to count down the number of classes that were remaining. With 6 week classes that went by quickly, it helped. I could even count down the weeks especially if I had a particularly challenging class.

Hi, the number besides our name gets +1 when we respond to a discussion. Starting a discussion, or commenting on another person's response does not adds to it. My advice would be to increase your number of postings to 500 at least. After that, you can use copy and paste and that would be great for you.

hi aireanna18, yes i did turn on my mylot notifications for discussions started by friends. there are lots of nice discussions for me to join in but i don't know why i failed to join in in the end. and all those notifications are still queueing in my email. i think maybe i afraid that i could not give a good response to the discussion starter so i give up responding. maybe i shouldn't have think too much and just respond to it. you know, sometimes i worried that what i said not only may not benefit others, but also may hurt them, so in the end will affect my reputation number as well. think too much right?

victorywp, one more suggestion that I just thought of for you is that you may want to consider turning on your myLot notifications for discussions started by friends. Many times that is a good way to hear about discussions that your friends have started that you can respond that will help you to increase your myLot activity rating. Best of luck to you!

victorywp, I think you are just overthinking it. I think you just need to adopt Nike's philosophy, "Just do it." I know what you are saying, and in person I am very much that way. I am shy. I sometimes worry about what people will think of me. I can be awkward not knowing exactly how to say something to a person I do not know. Many times we spend so much time overthinking things. We spend so much time overthinking and analyzing every little action rather than just taking action. Here is the thing, obviously you have a great reputation for a reason people like what you post. That is not going to change regardless of whether you post on your own discussion or someone else's discussion. You can do it!

Well, my number says so. I am also here for 4 years and the funny thing is. I am ways too far when it comes to number besides our username. But mind to check our ratings- we're both the same 98/100- thu you seldom participate here in mylot. Anyway, it's good to see you back and wish to see you more.

hi mrshubert13, i think our rating number does not directly affect our earnings. for example, we may be actively starting our own discussions and busy responding to all our respondents. so maybe we already replied to thousands of respondents in maybe 50 discussions. so we only get the rating number of 50 instead of thousands. but at the end of the month, we still get our pay because the earnings are based on our participation, not the rating number beside our name.

The way the reputation rating works is based upon the quality of your posts. You post quality responses. Other member can rate your responses on myLot. In order for you to get your reputation star, you must have a myLot activity rating of 100. Then, you can begin rating posts and participating in the reputation rating. Another thing that helps is when people rate your response as the best response on the discussion.

Hi, welcome back. I will tell you what I observe on getting that number to increase. When you start a discussion, as soon as it has a response, you will increase by one. The first time you respond in someone else's discussion, your number will go up by one. In that same discussion if you comment on a response by someone else, the first time you do you usually see an increase of one. Now, even if the number is not going up, if you are responding a lot, or commenting on responses a lot, you are earning, but you will not see that number increase. I hope you did not stay logged out the whole time you were gone, because if you stayed logged out more than 90 days (I believe that is right) you lost all of your earnings. I am also going to note that I do not look at my number often, so I am not 100% sure of it. Others can probably tell you more.

hi GardenGerty, thank you for the clear explanation. i got your points easily. yeah, actually i responded more to my own discussions so it does not increase my rating number. and yes, i know this, i have been logging into my accoumt once a while maybe around one to two months once just to keep my account active. it's 90 days.

GardenGertie, yes you lose all your earnings if you are gone for too long. I had that happen to me I had been away for a couple of years. The odd part is that in the couple of weeks that I have been back I have earned more than I had previously ever earned prior to my absence. It is like since I've been back I have figured out how the site work. I know I have benefited a lot from participating in discussions under the myLot interest that have taught me how to best utilize the site.

Hello victory, Happy to see you back. I am confused with your question, the number beside in our name and rating (reputation) is entirely different. The number beside in our name shows the posts we posted, including the reply, the topics we started. But rating is given by the other participants after reading, that is entirely depends on the viewers of our posts. The rating will increase slowly but the number of posts increases soon after we post a new reply or new topic. I mean if we post, more replies to others or start new topics, the number besides in our will definitely increase. If we comment in our own topic the number won’t increase, if we comment in somebody else’s column, remember, the starter of the topic is not us, 1 number increase quickly.

If we all go and read this page: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx then we all use the words that myLot use, there will be no more confusions. The number in brackets alongside our username is: user activity rating. The star is our user reputation.

I should also have added that the number in brackets (our user activity rating) is NOT a post count as it does NOT include all of our activity here and that our reputation is decided by others when they rate us.

hi victorywp I think you get one for a response and a comm ent but other coments you do n ot but you still get paid for all the c omments and responses you make too. the number is just to show your activity and it g oes up and down if you hafe responded to others discussions that were deleted your number goes down and if mylot has deleted some they can give extra points to good users too. I thik y ou get a 1 also for starting a discussion and for getting a respoonse and commetn. other than that I am not sure. it all in the guidelines of the FAQ's someplace.yes my number is increasing and believe it or not I am the leader here in ranking over 246,898 other people. hatley here

JohnRok, you make good suggestion; however, I believe the guidelines state that you are supposed to do a searc to see if there is something similar before posting a new discussion. I think that is the reason why myLot sometimes just deletes them because they see it as a violation of the guidelines. I am not sure whether it would be feasible to merge to discussions together like that part of me thinks it could make the discussion more confussing in the long run. It would also depende upon the platform and technology of the site whether something like this is even possible.
@JohnRok1 (2051)
27 Oct 12
I think it's pretty difficult to detect without fail whether a discussion similar to the one you already started exists on mylot. This being the case, I think it would be good if, instead of simply deleting a discussion on the grounds that a similar discussion already exists, my lot could downgrade the scoring of the new discussion to that of a response or comment, or even move the whole discussion across to the previous discussion, changing the initial post to a response and the other responses to responses to the original discussion. Posts thus rendered "plagiarist" could then be deleted without deleting those which aren't. I'm day-dreaming, of course.

Well, as soon as people respond to a discussion that you post you do get a plus 1 for your rating. I know when you are posting discussions it feels more like your activity rating is not increasing because it does not go up until someone comments to your discussion. Still if you started 5 discussions a day that all get responses from myLot users you could increase your myLot activity by 5 points a day. Then, you could reach your goal of 500 in a couple of weeks. I was reading a discussion by another member earlier today that reminded me that if you want to be successful you need to have a plan. I would make using the knowledge that you gained from this discussion to create a plan of how you will reach your goal of 500. Best of luck to you!

for me what's important to know is that even though it's not increasing, as long as you keep commenting on the responses in your own discussion, or responding in other people's discussions, all of your responses and comments that meet mylot's criteria are paid. so if you want to earn a lot for this discussion, start commenting on the responses you received here.

Well, victorywp, I understand what you are saying here. I've been in some great discussions lately where I have responded back and forth with others and commented on multiple pages, so I know what you are saying it takes a lot of time. Then again I only tend to start like 1 discussion at a time, and so far my discussions get less than 10 responses. It gives me time to find other discussions to respond to as well; then I tend to let the discussion that I had going fizzle out before I start another. I do not know if this strategy will help you, but I just thought I would share it with you.

all mylotters become inactive from time to time. what's great about mylot is your discussions, as long as within guidelines, are still in your started tab so you can come back to answer the responses when you're available, even if it's days, weeks or months later. numbers-wise, the only thing left to aim for is 500 so you can copy-paste, which is very helpful so you don't have to retype something.

Oh, i notice the matter regarding copy and paste function too! Previously when i just started myLotting, i tend to write on microsoft word before posting on myLot as i was afraid the page will auto sign-out after some time if i have not finish my posting. Hence, to avoid wasting my effort, i wrote it on microsoft word, and intend to copy and paste to myLot as my reply. However, i get a pop out box stating, "In order to help prevent spam, only users with a rating greater than 500 are allowed to paste. If your rating is greater than 500 and you still cannot paste logout and sign back in." Hehe.. it always reminds me that i have not yet reached 500 rating. =) I still have a long long way to go. How i wish to reach to at least level of 100 rating to enjoy writing like the rest of the myLot members. It makes the post more lively and fun with all the "emoticons" around. Isn't it so? =)

Hello my friend victorywp Ji, Well, first of all I wish to welcome you who;le -heartedly and bring you some afcts about STAR RATING- as below :- STAR-RATING/RANKING In general, what Mylot says is,if you have more positive ratings, you will have better rated star. But,I think this is how the star rating most probably works. When a person reaches 100 posts,he is given a 5 star[50/100:-You can see this by keeping the mouse pointer over the star].Then, the number of positive ratings and negative ratings are calculated, and the final star rating is calculated. So,the number of posts doesn't have a direct influence. Whats that taken into account is,the relative value of the star compared to the number of posts. so,even if a person has 5000 posts, its converted to the base of 100 posts and the star rating is calculated. So,a general tip to increase your star rating is to comment more,as the number of posts will remain unchanged . Cheers.I hope,I am clear May God bless You and have a great time

Your first two points is right if we are responding on others discussion increase by 1 and if we start the discussion and get two responses or one response and our one comment on it then increase by 1 but if we are commenting on remaining response other than first no increase the number. After starting a new discussion the number increase only one time first response and first comment or two responses.

Angelpink, this is my understanding: 1. For discussions posted by other myLot members, I can comment on them. When I post the first time my myLot activity the number in the brackets increases by 1. So, if my rating was say 30 when I entered the discussion; then I post now it will be (31). Now, if I choose to post a 2nd response to that same discussion thread, my activity rating will increase again, so now it would say (32) *using the previous example. Now, I can continue to post responses to the discussion thread, which does increase my myLot participation this may increase myLot earnings; however, I will not see my activity rating increase anymore from posting to this discussion because I already hit the maximum of +2 increase for my activity rating from this discussion. 2. For discussions I start. When I post the discussion question, I will not see my activity rating increase. So, if it was at (32) before posting the discussion question, it will still say (32) after I post the question. Later someone posts to my discussion question that I posted then I will see my activity rating increase by 1, so now it says (33). I respond back to those who posted to my discussion question because it is polite and respectful. It will help my participation and myLot earnings; however, I will not see my activity rating increase because I already reached the maximum of +1 for a discussion that I started. myD, Unforgetable, and GardenGertie feel free to chime in hear if I have incorrectly interpretted. I think the 3 of you are the experts here!

hi kokomo, actually i don't mean the reputation number in the star. i mean the rating number in the bracket. sorry for the confusion. anyway, i think the reputation number is affected by how other mylot members rate your responses and comments. that's the reason quality responses and comments are always needed for us to get a higher reputation.

Based on my observation, I have notice that when you make a new discussion, the number beside your name will not increase right away. It will only increase if the discussion you made already accumulate responses. In terms of posting a comments to the discussions, the number beside your user name will automatically get a plus one. However if you post a comment on the response on the discussions that you post, the number beside your user name will not increase. But I think posting comments will help a lot to build a good reputation here in mylot. And it will also help you to earn more

Why is _Raja able to use 4 emoticons? Is there any other things I should know about emoticons? Please share it then as I know it was just three. I saw some veterans though that uses more. Just wondering how is it achieved.

Oh my, I tried using 4 emoticons, it worked. Does making the letters bold excluded on this?
