I saw three...

I went out with a friend yesterday and saw three head scratchers... 1. At IKEA, the pay phone in the entrance area had an extra keypad so that a person could text from it. I just can't imagine anyone needing to text from a pay phone. 2. At Value Village, passing the toy department I noticed a toy ATM... well, when I was a kid we had toy cash registers, so I guess modern day kids would play with a toy ATM. 3. On the drive home, following a car with the personalized license plate reading NEXTTIME ... next time what? I wonder.

Sometimes people might have texting capabilities on their cellphones but no calling minutes. Happens to my teen daughter all the time, she uses all her minutes so can only text. So you might want to text to a cellphone, rather than call. Or maybe they just want to text to a computer. Someone using Gmail for instance, can receive SMS messages from a phone through their email account. But mostly, younger people love to text and hate to call. It's this generational thing, I think. Kids know money comes out of ATMs. They would love it. The problem is that it doesn't teach them that you have to put money into the bank before you can take it out. My kids thought ATMs were just magic money machines where you went when you didn't have any money left and the ATM would give you more. NEXTTIME - well, might be a great conversation starter. It certainly piqued your curiosity, right?

You could be right about the texting bit. I don't understand how that works.

Haha! The things you notice when you're out! Did the toy ATM have a hidden camera in it so the kid could practice fleecing people lol. Amazingly, when I found out there was an e-petition to stop those godawful self-service tills I duly signed, only to be confronted by the fact that I was only the 14th person to do so. I guess most people don't get irate over things I do..well, it's obvious actually isn't it?

I didn't really examine the toy ATM, just noticed it in passing. At first glance, I thought it was a toy stove.

I'm assuming you mean you had a toy stove... When I was a kid, we had a toy fridge and kitchen sink, but no stove. Now I know why. You had it!

So which one scratched your head? Did it feel good because it is one of he best things in life...if your head itches. If not it is better converted to a massage. That's good too.

Well, so far it's been a real peach... not. Besides the awful weather, my back is really acting up, to the point where I couldn't stand up from my chair earlier today without a lot of pain. Had to walk bent over to get to where I was going.

The only one I can understand is the toy ATM,children often pretend to be their parents and do things that grown ups do when they play. That's why they also sell toys like pretend mobile phones and why litter girls often totter around on their mothers high heels.Probably even without a pretend ATM some children would pretend something else was an ATM machine.Though I suppose the ability to text may come in useful if the person they are trying to contact isn't answering the phone they maybe more likely to get a text than an answer phones message.

Yes, (most) children can imagine all sorts of things. I remember pretending the dresser was a mailbox, using the space between drawers as the mail slot.

NEXTTIME they'll get a Rolls Royce, maybe? A toy ATM....going to teach 'em early how to spend money? And.....I can't understand what has happened to using a telephone to T A L K. Has that gone the way of the cash register?

The plate was on a small car, so maybe the suggestion of a Rolls fits.
