how do you spend Halloween in your place?

In our place, we're not really used to wearing costumes like what I see in other countries. In our place, the usual practice is going to the cemetery and be with our departed loved ones. We usually would spend hours there, bring flowers, light candles, eat, and bond with other members of the family. The cemetery would be jampacked and you see families continuing a tradition passed on from generation to generation. It is only lately that our kids are asked to wear costumes at school and have "trick or treat" but during our time, schools did not have such activity. How about in your area? How do you celebrate halloween?

hi there cutie18f. this year, i'll be accompanying my daughter go trick or treating at a nearby mall. i got her registered last thursday. was originally planning to take her to nickelodeon fright fest at sm mall of asia but decided against it because going trick or treating in a nearby mall is so much convenient!!! my daughter will be wearing a fairy costume. she is really excited and so am i. not sure if i'll wear a costume as well. i think my ugly mug is enough to scare people already. i really have no plans of going to the cemetery. too crowded. i will light a candle and say a prayer for the souls of my beloved departed ones. i've also offered a number of masses as well. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Yeah, malls now are spearheading halloween activities for everyone. At our local mall, they have this costume competition and there is also trick or treat there. I wonder if the kid in the house can go since all of us will be at the cemetery. It is really crowded there but it feels good. I feel like I get to talk to my departed loved ones. I even see some people crying and openly talking to the graves of their beloved who had passed away.

in the past few years, the solemnity of all souls day isn't really followed anymore. the scenes in the cemetery look like its a town fiesta. anyway, each of us remember our departed ones in our own way. some through songs and prayers, others through big celebrations like family reunions. stay safe this all souls day cutie18f. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

I do not celebrate it... Its roots are with paganism, and have to do with the occult. I have to hand it to the candy companies for making it into a day of commerce. Bravo...

now that my kids are older, we don't really do that much, nor do we hand out candy any more. i find that Halloween is just becoming more evil as time goes by. we don't have anything to do with it anymore. Besides, this year Halloween will no doubt be a washout due to Hurricane Sandy in my area anyways.

Oh, so the tradition is slowly dying in some areas out there. I see.

I live in the city of St. Louis in the state of Missouri and here my entire life we dressed up in costumes for Halloween. Even the adults sometimes dress up. Not everyone goes all out for this but a lot do with haunted houses decorations on their own homes costumes and trick or treating. I do not dress up anymore but my husband does when taking our niece and nephew out trick or treating or when he is handing candy out to the kids from home. Halloween is such a fun holiday. This year i worked at a haunted house hubby and i help put together with friends. I also went to a Halloween party this past week. it was fun. Most of us dressed up and had cookies with jack o'lantern faces on them. Some people here even like to carve pumpkins and put scary faces on them or candles in them.

It is really different in our country because ours is a period of solemnity while in other countries it is a period of fun and parties.

Yes, we are starting to pick up the practice of other countries, but not all the way out because people still celebrate it in the graveyards of their loved ones.

Kids here wear costumes and go trick or treating, adults will wear costumes and go to parties. It's not a very meaningful holiday, just a fun tradition.

Hello, Lucky. Yes, in your country this is something everyone look forward to because of the costumes, trick or treat, and parties. It is really different in our place because there is more focus on remembering our departed loved ones.

Halloween in our country isn't that much celebrated compared with other countries. Although there are few subdivisions of wealthy people who celebrates it like in the US. The malls have contests on best costume and the kids go around tbe, mall for their trick or treat.

Oh, much like in our place, but the real action is in cemeteries where everybody goes and stops to pay respect to the dearly beloved who have departed.

The same traditional thing, spend time with family and visit loved ones in their graveyard. We offer prayers solemnly and no parties. However, there are some people celebrate the Halloween in schools or private companies.

When my son was little we used to go trick or treating. Now I always have a Halloween party. If Halloween is on a week day, I'll have my party the Friday or Saturday night before. If it's on a weekend I'll have it the night before. All of us dress in costumes and usually after the party we go around to places that is rumored or known to be haunted. This year we had a party, but this year after the party instead of ghost hunting I made a haunted trail through the woods and it was a success. We had planned to go ghost hunting, but the storm (Hurricane Sandy)prevented us from doing that. We were going to go after the haunted trail, but the rain started coming in so we couldn't do it. The hurricane just skimmed by us, but we still got a little rain and wind. We all love Halloween here.
