When applying for a job, what do you think is most important?

With the economic times as they are I think it's even more important when you are applying for a new job, to make sure you get it 'just right'. I believe, whether we like it or not, when applying in person the first impression the potential employer gets of you is the most important. With that said I think you should make sure you wear business attire, men/young men, dress slacks, nice button up shirt, tie and/or jacket if possible, and ladies, same, a nice skirt/suit combination or slacks/suit, but by all means,do NOT wear short skirts or blouse showing too much cleavage! Let's get hired for the right reasons, shall we? Next, be prepared! Have a completed, updated resume ready. Do your research on the company, job you are applying for.

When applying for a job you should make sure that your cv is fully up to date and is clear and easy to read. On getting ot the interview you should make sure you og nice and clean and tidy with clean nails and shoes and listen to the questions that you are asked so you give the correct answers. And don't be scared to say you don't understand the question or can't answer it. Be bright and cheerful

Hi bizness! Since our friends already shared the important things when applying for a job, I just would like to add some things which might be useful also. That is being on time and being courteous. Have a nice day!

The way an applicant looks makes a lot of difference. He or she should be well prepared too. It is best to look up information about the company and prepare for the interview properly. This includes preparing good answers for the possible questions that may be posed to you during the interview. One should be able to answer quickly but in a complete manner. A simple yes/no is often not considered enough by the interviewer. Make sure to look fresh and willing to learn, while also properly equipped with the necessary skills and knowhow to increase your chances of being selected.

Great advice! I'd like to add that if you don't know something, PLEASE don't say too much to give it away.

It is important to know the background of the company you are applying for. Sometimes, the interviewers would ask the applicant if they know something about the company and what does the applicant think of how the company works and other questions related to that. It pays to be prepared for everything during an interview.

Seems we are all in agreeance here on that. Research is important and the potential employee will respect and appreciate that you took the time to get to know something about the company.

In addition, from the part of the applicant he or she must also be sure or knowledgeable to what she's getting herself into. She must also be aware that the kind of job that she's vying for is something that she likes to do. All the benefits and salaries will be for nothing if she wouldn't be able to stay in the company long enough to reap more benefits not only money but also career-wise.

This is true as well. Make sure you're in it for the long haul and no second guessing.

There are so many things we should think when we apply for a job such as the environment, the development of ones future, the salary and so on. Besides, when we get an interview, we also should think about the dress, the information about the company, the possiable questions mar be asked and your respomse. every detail is important.

Every detail is important and you are right, other things should be taken into account. You don't want to waste your time or that of the company you are interviewing for. Think about what you bottom line is as for salary, whether you will relocate, the distance the job is, and the hours. Make sure you know what you want and expect when you go in.

I definitely agree - when I was in a job where I hired entry-level people in - you wouldn't believe the types of people who would walk in and apply. Do not wear sweat pants even if you are just picking up an application! Also, try to spell correctly on that application - and oh yes, act professional! These first impressions are hugely important and can totally make a difference.

There are some things that are very important, of course you must have researched about the company you are applying for. But, the most important for me is, you must show confidence in the interview, you must answer all the questions with confidence, and if you do not know any topic, just say it as it is, but with confidence. You going to let a great impression.

Exactly! I agree confidence is the key accompanied by appearance, knowledge and skill.
