Is peace still possible in this troubled times?

Nowadays we could see a lot of troubles all around us. There are troubles with our relationships with other people and there are troubles that are created by nature like earthquakes and typhoons. There are troubles in politics and all types of society. Troubles in our neighborhood, on tv and all over the world. Sometimes I wonder if we could still achieve great peace when there are so much trouble around us. How about you, how do you think we could still obtain peace even if the surrounding around us makes it difficult for us?

Peace... - This child seems at peace...human and bear together. But sadly in time he will learn the world is not perfect. In fact...he did, this was me as a little child.
I believe a degree of peace is possible. There are a lot of people in the world who work hard for other people: doctors, nurses, teachers, ambulance workers, fire fighters. I have deep respect for anyone who works tirelessly for others on a daily basis. And what of the fathers and mothers who work every day of their lives to protect, feed, clothe and educate their children. Are they not everyday heroes? I think they are. There is still much to love and treasure in our troubled world, in troubled times. So while I think a degree of peace is possible; as a Christian I don't believe there will ever be widespread peace, not until Christ returns. Sad to say until then there will will be trails and troubles for humankind...wars, poverty, disease, natural disasters. It's a tragic fact, but sadly I believe this is so.

I agree, peace is more than a child sleeping in its mother's lap: the innocence of childhood is short-lived, although so is life as a whole, sadly.

Yes I agree that it is one of the sad realities in life. I also believe that parents who care diligently for their family's welfare are 'silent heroes' and should be given more credits for it. I remember one saying about peace which says "sometimes peace is attained when we have victory in war" which to my understanding means when we have won struggling in difficult moments and doing our best to improve situations, and not just the concept of peace of a child sleeping in his mother's lap. I think to attain peace, we should be ready to go to war and fight against things that destroys peace around us.

Oh yes! If you can't have it on your surroundings at least within you. Whenever I'm in trouble I always pray that God would give me inner peace so that I'll be calm when I talk to people. But if you are seeking for world peace... I don't know if that's still possible because every nationalities has different views and when they don't agree.. they call for war. :((

Yes I believe that prayer is one of the greatest sources of peace. I believe this because it is the time when we become spiritual and not so concerned of worldly things. Let's pray for world peace then :)

Peace is always possible, if enough people want it. Problem is- sometimes its harder to get enough people who want peace.

I also wonder often why people choose war instead of peace...hate instead of love. I think if people would only try to see the good in everyone, then there would be more peace around us. I would say think, pray and talk peace.

I still believe in peace. So, I am still hoping that one day in this world, there will be peace and love that will be spread all over the world. Crimes here in Philippines are being reduced every-time Manny Pacquiao has a boxing match. This is a fact.

Funny you have to mention about Manny Pacquiao fights, but it's true! I could now compare Manny Pacquiao fights with the visits of the Holy Father the Pope in our country

Its so true that the world's problems are getting worse by the day.I somehow think that there would still be a chance at peace. But it really lies in each of us.When there is violence all around us, we grow up never seeing the virtues of peace or witnessing the virtues of being calm against voilence/anger.And it is so dissapointing because, hope is the beam which keeps the human race on the path of survival. As we move away from the calm, we seem to lose something of ourselves in the process and nothing we do later seems to help in regaining that. God...May there be peace in the world all around....:)

Yes, I remember the song "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.." Although it seems doubtful to have peace in face of troubles, I'm one of those who believe it's still very possible. As you said, it lies with each one of us so I believe peace could be attained when we seek it deeper within ourselves unencumbered by the troubles in the outside world. That is why I guess it's important to always pray and meditate in these times.

To be honest, I think that it would be very difficult to obtain peace worldwide. Because there are different views and perspective that most of us don't agree upon. But I still don't lose hope in having peace in this world. I mean, we can still start peace within our family, then our community eventually. Peace is one thing that'd difficult to have but I believe if we respect one another, we can have peace :)

I agree with you very much when you said we have to start having peace in our own families, and may I add to start it within ourselves. I like your spirit of not losing hope in the face of troubles around us, and I adopt the same spirit of always hoping for the best and to be a persistent optimist...continually believing in good when several things are not working out well...and continually looking for peace when it seems far away. Yes, I agree that respect is such an important factor for peace. That is why families who respect each other are most likely to stay together as compared to families who doesn't.
