What do you think of when people say live happy?

I have been thinking lately about happiness and what not, but I keep getting stuck. I know this is cliche but why do people just blow off the idea that life is too short to be sad. When I say sad or unhappy I generally mean negative. I want to hear what others think of this subject. Why does society focus on the negative in the world rather than the positive?

There was a time when I had lots of bad and negative people around me but after I had kids I moved away from all the bad influences and me and my girlfriend are trying for a quite life. It wasn't until after I had moved away that I really realized what a drain and waste of energy negative people can be and how peaceful and relaxing life can really be. The truth is life can be hard enough with out you having to deal with other people's rubbish.

This is exactly how I feel about most of society. I am glad that someone feels the same as I do. Some people just insist on making themselves and everyone around them sad. I don't need people like that in my life. I want to be around positive and happy people!

Ever since the beginning of time people have had rough patches to get through. This can bring about negativity. Can you imagine a cave man going hunting and missing that one shot he would have with an arrowhead he made? That could have been food for his clan. This is just one instance. You can go through history and see the struggles even to today. those stuck on the government for help (food stamps, money, health etc) and know what satisfaction it was to earn a paycheck. Most all of us have been taught to work hard and the great American dream is to own your home, marriage, and children. So with the economy the way it is there will be a lot of negativity. But each person has their own way to come out of the bottom and pull themselves up to a positive way of thinking. While I am disabled, I still work on things that give me joy and do the best I can. Occasionally we go on a cruise. So doing something postive and shooting for a goal can be exciting. When you are stuck on negativity or if you are positive all the time you find yourself saying is the glass half full or half empty. That pretty much sums up how you are feeling for the day negative or positive.

I know exactly what you are saying and their is truth in it, and I am not saying their is not a time to be unhappy because obviously their is. I don't agree with staying negative which I think is the problem in this whole discussion. Negativity is universal in society now which is exactly what shouldn't be happening. People use negativity almost as a common point to bond over. I think this is a problem. The news even does it. The majority of new is negative, and this is broadcast to the whole nation? This doesn't make sense to me. It seems as though they want to spread the negativity. I am almost positive that most people would say that when you are around someone or something negative, it makes you negative. I also think most people would say that it is harder to become happy than to become sad. So, why does the news spread negativity when most people say that it is so hard to come out of. I refuse to watch the new on a regular basis for this reason alone. Why should I surround myself with negativity. This is where I find myself to be almost apathetic towards others. I am sorry if this comes off non-sympathetic and cold hearted. I am not cold hearted in the least, but I think that society brings negativity upon themselves. I don't feel bad if someone is sad with few exceptions. If something happens directly to you or something happens that effects you directly I understand that. That is the only reason to be sad in my opinion. I don't feel bad for the people that watch the news and have a bad day because of something they saw or heard. I feel bad for the people on the news that it happened to but then let it go. This ended up becoming a ridiculous rant and I apologize but I just hate when people look at me and say I am heartless when someone is sad and I don't acknowledge it. They brought it upon themselves in most cases. I don't want to be sucked into the negative like everyone else. People control how they feel more-so than they think. Do things to prevent sadness and promote happiness. Otherwise you are just hurting yourself. Maybe I am answering my own question, but it is something worth talking about.

I think this is more an expression. To know that there are so many things you can do and see, so many experiences one can have that it's a pity to be sad forever and just sit there. True is many people do think they wasted a part of their lives. We mostly only agree with that (or discover about that) if we get older. But I do believe it's fine to be sad as well. Sadness is a part of life and without you will not be able to feel happiness at all. If you would be happy every day of your life you would not even noticing what happiness is.

Maybe the reason why people mostly focuses and on negative things is because they don't know how to cope up with the troubles and pains in life. they drown their selves on that failure. and i can tell that it's not easy indeed in moving on.

i think we think negative about something it just because before u already have some negative experience about it, or your close one or anyone u know that get the negative experience. that why, when u face the same problem or anything u just can think the bad side not the good.

I think to "live happy" means to live without regret. Live the life you want to live. Go after your dreams. Be a good person. Do and be what makes YOU happy, not what makes someone else happy. Do what's best for you.

many people think they are unlucky ,they have no money,no car,and have a bad job, maybe they want to be a successful man or businessman, but the fact usually tell them it doesn't come true, because they are only thinking and thining ,they can't do any thing which they want to do.
