I am a chain smoker and have tried for years to quit. I've tried it all believe me. Today I have half a pack of cigarettes. It's cold out and don't really want to go out and would have to if I wanted more. I've started getting a cough that's not sounding good not to mention the "spot" they saw on my lungs. I am not going to buy and cigarettes today and will smoke what I have sparingly until they are gone. Then that's it I'm going to quit and not buy any more. Tomorrow is supposed to be snowy...yet another reason not to leave my apartment to go to the store to buy more. I've been smoking for over 40 years which makes it so hard for me to quit. Do you think I can do it cold turkey? I'm going to give it my best try...please pray for me to do it!

I admire your quest to stop, but I wonder whether it's best just to cut down, rather than go totally cold turkey, only you can answer this honestly. But I have found in the past that gradually quitting an addiction is easier than just stopping it completely, and it's not such a shock to the body. Your body is used to you chain smoking to stop completely will not be healthy, and you will have bad cravings. However I do wish you every success and look forward to your abstinence in follow up discussions, but don't be too hard on yourself if you find it too much to quit totally.

Hi ctryhnny, there are cases for chain smokers quitting successfully after suffering from all kinds of severe struggles to free from it. First off all you already know it would be a tough job for you who has been smoking for such a long time to quit smoking. However I believe you can do anything if you set your mind firmly to it. More over keep on smoking will worsen your health, hoping you to give up smoking without delay. Persistence and bearing painful suffering are essential in quitting. Wish you all the best and success in smoking cessation Have a nice day

This is a good beginning for you I am glad that there will be less smokers in the world. My dad was a heavy smoker in the past. One day he wanted to get rid of it because it would be good for the health. Of course it was not easy at all. When he felt like smoking, then he would go to do some housework so that he would not focus on smoking. He kept doing this for a week and he didn't have a strong feeling to smoke. And after a month, he quit smoking totally. I hope his experience will be helpful for you to quit smoking. Just do something else when you want to smoke.

I pray that you'd be able to really quit it for good. But with 40 years of smoking, I think that it would take a lot of time before your system completely forgets about nicotine. I do not know anybody who has abruptly stopped from smoking. But if you think you can, then, that will be your DAY!

Yes, do it! We know the evil effects of smoking and you said you've done it for over 40 years? My, I guess it's now or never. Just do it. There is no tomorrow to look forward to when it comes to kicking this bad habit. Do it NOW.

It really takes a courage to quit smoking, and it is only you that can make it happen, it is your decision. I pray to God for his guidance be upon you. I was able to quit my smoking few years back and so you can also do it. You were smoking for over 40 years so your lungs may already been destroyed, but it's not yet late. You can do it!
