Sometime ago we bought a cellphone which is specific for the elders. Such as the bigger fonts, button and louder ringtones etc. However, my grandma tried to use it but still found it difficult to use. So finally she gave it up. We can't expect that every elder person who can use the modern things well.

I was not aware that such phone which are specific use to elders are also available in the market. Yes with age it sometimes becomes very difficult to cope up with the technology and use it efficiently. and yes it is true that we cannot expect all people to use all technologies.

Yes, expecting them to be always on with new things is not right. We must respect them and their difficulties.

My mom (age 90) says that she's glad that I have the Internet and can use it well. As for herself, she doesn't even know how to send and receive email. However, she enjoys being able to ask me about something such as the lyrics of a song and know that, chances are, I'll be able to find what she's looking for on the Internet. Yet, I know of people out there who are her age and even older who use the Internet with ease. I think that things like this vary from person to person.

It is difficult for older folks to use something new. There are land lines still.

I must agreed with this. Since my grandmother seems to be having problem to understand the way how to use the cellphone on her own. Until now, she still prefer to use the land line to call us and her friends.

I had seen that most of the old aged ones not able to deal or cop up the existing technology and the existing world. This is because there is a wide difference between the world we live and the world they lived in the past. Anyway we can't do anything at them.

If they try to adjust to it step by step, perhaps it can work anyway.

Yeah, maybe it's still too confusing to her, usually elderly has a difficulty to learn a technology even if that technology has been made so that senior people may use it more easily with the bigger fonts, voice commands and such. Well at least she wants to try it first because often elderly doesn't even consider to try new things. Well she maybe more comfortable in using the regular house phone. Though in my country house phone not even popular anymore.

Since this cellphone is designed for the elders, so actually it has bigger fonts, buttons, loud ringtone and the feature is already quite simple.

I noticed that elders are harder to teach about the technology.. even my mom gets annoyed at first when I teach her how to use her cellphone and until now she is still confused with it.. maybe it is hard for them because they grew up in a simple life.. where cellphones and other technologies haven't invented yet.. sometimes being simple is less complicated..

That is so nice of you to get your grandmother a cellphone but sometime it's not easy to embrace technology. Perhaps the cellphone you bought for her is still not suitable for her. If she can use the house phone, perhaps she needs a cellphone that is like a house phone and one that she's comfortable in using.

She must be real old not to see the letters. Maybe you should have her eyes checked first, then when you instruct her how to use it, do it slowly and step by step. Modern gadgets are hard to understand by some people, even young ones find them hard to get.

It Sounds as if the elderly are sort of ungrateful. In fact, they are used to their life style and don't accept new things. My 91 year old Mum is a little hard of hearing, due to the side effect of the medicine.I bought her a hearing aid,but she threw it away only wearing it for one day.It made no difference no matter how I talked her into wearing it again.

I don't understand why your mom doesn't want to use the hearing aid, at least it can be helpful for her hearing. And it shall not give her a big convenience to use it.

It's difficult for the elder persons to accept the new techonology. I can understand that. My parents are not so old, but still they don't know how to receive and send text messages by phone. They just give or answer the phones. And they don't want to learn the text message thing. They think that it's complicated to learn it.

Well, we cannot please elders to use our modern gadgets at this era because they are not used to use those things. And I think at that age, they are already impatient about everything. Just understand her. She's too old to be sick to learn about mobiles.

I was surprised that my 94 year old neighbour decided to buy herself a mobile! Because she is so frail she finds it comforting to have it on her when she is around the house, if she has a fall and cannot get to the phone, at least she will have her mobile, provided it's always charged. She's got a Nokia which is ideal for the elderly as it's easier to use. Her daughter came down and set it all up for her so she has all the numbers keyed in, in case of emergency etc.

We have special phones that would appear to be easier for the elderly folks here to use, as well. Great idea! However, you're right. Not every elderly person is meant to have a cellphone, nor is every elderly person interested in owning one. My mother is not yet considered elderly, and she does not even want one! She has one for work, but she is not crazy about the idea.

Now old people can be divided into two type. One is quite modern, they owns all fashion equipment like iphone and ipad, they can use them well and use them to connect with their children and grandchildren. To them, fashion is very important and they lead a life in a very modern way, they like changes. While to the other, they prefer traditional way and assisted to their living style and always think present young mans are totally different from those at their time. To my mother, she can accept present technology well and want to learn new things, but she still use very old way to control her incomes and expends, which help her lead a happy life.

Youless, same like your grandma, my grandma had decided to given up the chance to continue using her cellphone. Because she seems having problem to understand the function of her cellphone. Although we are buying the most simple type of cellphone for her but she still seems unable to remember them. At last, we only ask her to use the house phone since it is more convenient for her. She seems having no problem to use the house phone compared to using the cellphone.

As they were saying you can't teach the old dogs. I actually understand that though sometimes it pisses me off because you already taught them the clear instructions on what to do but then they are going to get mad. Sometimes I am being accused as a liar when in the middle of explanation. It was really hard for my part and offensive at the same time that you are helping a person then she is the one who is mad and accuse you of something that you are not.
