Before lighting up a cigarette - HALT!

Okay here's something I stumbled upon on the internet. A trick to quit smoking. Before you light up a cigarette or if you're thinking about lighting up one stick, think of the word HALT. HALT stands for Hungry Angry Lonely Tired You just have to ask yourself if at the time you were craving for a cigarette you were feeling any of the 4 things above. Most of the time it'll be one of the 4. All you have to do now is respond according to how you feel and not smoke. If you're hungry, instead of smoking, eat something. If you're Angry, instead of smoking, try to relax by taking deep breaths. If you're Lonely, instead of smoking, hang out wth some friends who don't smoke. Or get a hobby. If you're tired, sleep. There you go. I hope it helps those who want to quit too. I'm down to 4 sticks a day. Hahhahahahahaha.

I'll try. I had so many attempts of quitting but here I am holding another one again. I always say that maybe when something terribly wrong happens to me then I could finally stop. I had three surgeries already and every time I had one, I would stop for a while but still I am back. I said at thirty, I would surely say never again and should start anew with clean lungs. No, no, no... it just feels good puffing this tiny little dangerous thing!

hi taiwanlife did you know that smoking also kills cells in the heart? My husband smoked three packs a day and it caused him to have a series of heart attacks that finally just took his life. he could have lived another ten years according to the specialist if he had quit smoking after the first mild heart attack b ut he would not even try so he made me a widow much too early. do start to quit while you are young so you can have an old age too.

hi chipesterkhan glad to see you here. I see you have given some great pointers there. I have used someting similar to stop myself from overeating and from eatin nos nos as a diabetic.I have found a lot of times w hen I t hink I am hungry that a big glass of water will chase away that need as I was thirsty not hungry also if I do feel very empty a snack of a healthy food for a diabetic will stave off the empty feeling and I can wait for the next meal. Sometimes I hunger for company so come on mylot and talk to my friends here and the hungry feeling goes away for sure. same thing with smoking as you have found too.Keep up the good work and soon you will be at one then at none. good going/
