Going To Finish Up Knitting Projects

I have 2 knitting projects going and I need to finish them up. I started a short-sleeved cardigan a few summers ago. It is a nice shade of purple and have it nearly finished. All I have to do is finish up the second sleeve and make the buttonhole band, sew it all together and sew on the buttons. It will be really nice to wear in the spring or fall. It's one of the easiest sweater patterns I have ever worked with. I also have a pair of fingerless gloves that I started early this month. I need to finish those up so I can give them to my youngest daughter. She likes those kinds of gloves. Do you have any knitting projects that you need to finish up?

I started an afghan about a year ago that I have to finish. Somehow I just can't get back into it though. Once I dig it out and get started it will be ok but the problem is getting started on it again!

Well, now that you have made mention of your afghan, go ahead and dig it out!! You know you want to and you'll be glad you did. Last night I finished knitting the fingerless gloves. Now all I have to do is sew the side seam.

Good for you. A project finished! I have another project that I have to finish first, before the afghan, but for sure this has inspired me to get working on things!

Not knitted garments but I do have a bunch of crocheted squares which I'm joining together. It's a well established, long winded project I began maybe 10 or so years ago. I'm like that...lol. I couldn't figure out how to join them and then I realised after lots of searching that there are, indeed, several ways to do it and you can choose for yourself. It's coming along nicely now and when the squares are joined I will see how many more squares I need to crochet to make a decent sized throw rug. I think it's a project more easily completed in winter.

I originally started to use up bits of yarn left over but it's mostly 8 ply acrylic.

I love to knit, sew, and crochet. Like I mentioned here, I have that sweater I need to finish up. I think knitted stitches are prettier than crocheted stitches. I like the fact, though, that with crocheting if you make a mistake and notice it several rows later, you can just rip it back to the mistake more easily than having to go back several rows in knitting. Glad you found a way that you can join the squares. What kind of yarn are you using for the throw rug? I think a nice heavy acrylic or heavy cotton might work for that.

I don't think I've ever seen and 8-ply yarn. All I've seen are single- through 4-ply. I bet it's a nice thick yarn, too.

It seems like I always have something I need to finish up. I wear bootie type of knitted houseshoes almost all the time when I'm at home and all of mine are wearing out. I started a new pair but haven't got very far. I need to get them finished before the others wear completely out.

I found a pattern online for a pair of slippers that have soles that are nubby. I think I'll make a pair with some yarn that I already have. It's a variegated yarn with different shades of green. I also have another skein of yarn to make a second pair of fingerless gloves for my daughter.

Nubby soles sound interesting. Is it because of the stitch, or is it something added to it? I usually use leftover or odd bits of yarn for the houseshoes, making stripes of matching or contrasting colors just to use it up.

The nubby soles is because of the stitch. In the picture of the slippers, the stitch looks like the seed stitch. That is a good way to use up bits of yarn in making slippers in a stripey fashion. Would be neat to see how that works out with no 2 slippers the same either.

Well, I have yet to start one! I've been wanting to learn how to knit and crochet but I really can't seem to get it right. So this Christmas, my aunt in law gave me a loom set, some needles and a basic instructional manual on how to do basic crochet. I'm so excited to use it and eventually come up with something, even if it's just a simple winter hat.

Raine, the best way to get started with knitting would be to make a few washcloths. The first one you could do just the knit stitch all the way through. Then the second one you could alternate the rows by knitting one row and then purl the next row. Repeat these rows and you will have one smooth side and the other side with ridges. I've seen those loom sets in WalMart and JoAnn's Fabrics. That might be one way you could get started on a nice hobby for you. It doesn't look like you would have as much variety in making things like you would if you would knit or crochet.
